| There had been rumors of G taking Peyton Manning or Edgerrin James with this pick. He pulls a Rockets-Yao and ends the suspense by taking Marshall Faulk. I should comment about the tier points here. Faulk gets 10, through my handy-dandy system. The next closest backs are Green and Alexander, with 7 apiece. There is no fantasy player who dominates his position as much as Faulk. Easiest pick of the draft. I don't have Warner ranked this high, but I like this pick. It was unlikely, in a 12 team league, that one of the top 6 QBs would be left at the 23rd overall pick. *Note: Howard's first words in the draft room came after I told everyone that Stefan was using a thesaurus to pick his new team name: "tell him that 'fag' should work". Ah Norman, we missed you. Good pick, although Michael P is in that grey area of "might not get a good QB", depending on how the draft goes. It's too early for Garcia or Manning here, and I would have probably drafted the same, but in a big league, the QBs go fast. I'll add here that Oleg about had an aneurism trying to find out who Dragon is. He then, when no one would tell him, started threatening him. How do you threaten someone in a chatroom? Jason knows how fast the QBs go, and decides to get his now. I prefer Manning, but you'll notice that this is still a 10 point pick. I think it was smart to ignore the rankings and make sure he got a QB. Garcia was the league leader in fantasy points last year, and there's nothing to say he won't do it again. Except me. I think Warner and Manning will beat him this year. Watch and be amazed. QuDanny had been worrying about a pick that never had to happen. He wanted to get Ricky Williams right here, but we started giving him different scenarios, and Danny quickly started to develop an ulcer. Luckily, none of the scenarios happened, and in fact, he got a back that he never expected to make it to 5. Way to go QuDan. I would think a QB will be there for the 20th pick, but we'll see. Still in the murky area. I would definitely not take a WR anywhere near here. There's too much of a shortage of QB and RBs. If I had taken a receiver though, Moss would have been it. He's gonna have a huge year. You know what would be cool? If we could take Randy 4 years ago and send him into the future. Leftwich, him, and those other WRs...we could put either of the Rams (Arun or Varun) in at RB and get 200 yards against 10 DB sets I had really hoped Manning would slip down to me at #9. So much for that. Some people think Manning isn't good because of interceptions. They just don't know what they're talking about. Theoretically, he threw lots of interceptions because he always had to come back in games, and force deep throws into prevent defenses. The Colts, I think, were last in points allowed last year. Enter Mr. Dungy. Good pick. At the time, I thought this was just one of dem crazy picks. Someone had Culpepper ranked too high, I thought. He'll be a stud, but this felt like a reach to me. I thought Culpepper had a shot at being there in the next round, when someone like Curtis Martin wouldn't. Pokey and G were not able to make the draft, by the way. This would make for some hilarity later. I originally had Ricky Williams ranked higher than Martin, but he hasn't proved anything yet. I needed a sure thing from my #1 pick. I felt that I was at the beginning of the "non-murky area". No way, I thought, will the top 6 QBs be gone before the 16th pick was made. I think Oleg mentioned around this point that this was taking too long. Oleg, we haven't even gotten out of the first round yet. You haven't picked yet! Wha? My second draft in a row where Favre goes in the top 10 picks! Weird. Anyway, Phil and I tried to predict before hand how each of us would draft. We had really really hoped that Arun would take Stephen Davis here, so we could laugh at him, but oh well. I really think these early QB picks are reaches. Whatever. When we tried to predict how everyone would draft, we said that Oleg would take Randy Moss here and say "league over", or even worse, "money". He didn't say anything like that though. He and Jason have, however, complained some more about the length of this draft, saying that they have some "bitches to get in". Sure guys. We all know that you were just in a rush so you could see who won American Idol OK....So my plan failed horribly. How in God's name did all 6 of these QBs go in the first round?! I still think it's a little too early for these quarterbacks, but at least these people got one. I'm definitely not taking the best of what's left, Aaron Brooks, in the next round. I might consider taking him in the 3rd. Winners: Everyone. If the QBs hadn't gone so fast, some of the QB pickers would have made the Losers Club, but everyone basically got good value with their first picks. The possible exceptions are Oleg and Stefan, who went with a receiver. SUPER SECRET LINK!!!!!! |
