The Finest Ankh-Morpork Hogswatch Traditions

The Hogfather

The Hogfather arrives on Hogswatcheve and delivers gifts for good little children. He is said to be a kind, fat gentleman whom wears boots and has a long, white whiskery beard.

Todays version of the Hogfather is said to be much more "in keeping with the Hogwatch Spirit" than the original dark myth. The Hogfather was a winter god who is associated with pig killing during winter months. During the year he spends his time ina palace of pig bones. On Hogwatch night he delivers presents of sausage, black pudding and pork scratching to the good children; bad children get bloody bones.

Another version is that the Hogfather is really a local king. It is said that the king was walking pass the house of 3 young women. He heard them crying because they had no food to celebrate the midwinter feast. He threw them a packet of sausages, badly concussing one - but there's no reason to ruin a good story.

Decorations

Traditional decorations include:

An oak tree in a pot. This is often decorated with ballbals etc to add a special Hogwacth feel.

Banners are put up to add a splash of colour

Children make paper sausage decorations (think paper chains!!!)
