For instance, you can take a fast horse, mate it with another fast horse and hopefully you have an even faster horse. This process is called selective breeding. I strongly believe that each creature, when broken down, is simply a set of instructions. So, fast+fast should equal even faster. In the natural enviroment these improvements may benifit the species as a whole. Is it then so imposible to believe that nature herself does not also play this game. We shall call this process natural selection. In the wild, an animal with improved characteristics will have a better survival chance. This means there are more likely to breed and this spreads the particular characteristics to some of their offspring. Over time, I believe that this method helps change a species. I would go even further and say that even humanity has changed over the centuries. We will also continue to change and improve through the generations. Through looking at the bone structure of various apes I have come to the conclusion that we are related. I believe that many, many centuries ago we were like them. But then we developed new characteristics, we started to think about the world around us. We left the jungle and started to build. Over time are skills developed. We are the result of this development. However, technology is always changing, lifesyle is changing; it is not impossible to believe that we will learn even greater skills, and later generations bodies will change to fit their changed lifesyle. P. Stibbons Reader in the Invisible Writings I'm sure I'm not related to apes, Mr Stibbons! I will not comment on your family however. Dean of College |
