AGATES AND JASPER FROM THE BAY OF FUNDY SHORE
NOVA SCOTIA , CANADA
COLLECTED FROM THE BEACHES FROM SCOTS BAY TO WESTPORT
The stones are collected from the beaches of the Fundy shore. Some are then put into a tumbler machine with various sizes of grit and tumbled for up to 3 weeks. This makes them smooth and shining. Others are cut into slabs with a large saw. Then the shapes are cut out with a saw. The stone is then shaped and polished. A cabachon is a stone that is rounded on the top and sometimes on both sides. This work is done by hand and can take many hours. The final products may have a hole drilled in them with a tiny diamond drill. Then a silver ring is put in and the item can become a necklace or earrings.
The agate comes in many colours and designs. Red, purple, green, black, white, orange, pink and with swirls, bands, fortifications and circles of colour. No two stones are alike.
