The owner of this car brought his Model A to me with a request that it be painted to match my 1931 Chevrolet. He did not want a total restoration of his car since he felt the mechanical systems were in good condition and he did not want a show car. We agreed that it would seem reasonable to do some minor mechanical work when painting the visible areas of the frame and engine. New front fenders were purchased to accommodate side mounted spare tires as well as rear fenders to replace the damaged ones. I also converted the trunk to a rumble seat and added a rear mounted trunk rack. New chrome trim such as bumpers, interior handles, and chrome accessories were installed to dress up the little Model A. This was my first attempt at the installation of an interior upholstery kit, which went very well. On the day of final delivery, the owner showed up in a Shay reproduction Model A. We both were satisfied with the quality of the final product, but after looking the car over the owner confessed that it was too pretty to drive. Apparently he preferred the "modern" conveniences of the Shay reproduction Ford and left the Model A with me. He asked that I sell the Model A for him, which was not a problem for this bright little gem. |
