1928 CHEVROLET [Click here for more photos]
I purchased this 1928 Chevrolet 2-door coach in 1977. The car had the original interior, sheet metal, body wood, and drive train. The body had been repainted once in a medium blue color many years ago. This little Chevy was a real jewel to drive. It had a 4-cylinder engine that would start with a simple spin of the hand crank or electric starter. The only trouble I had with the car was an occasional vapor lock or brief stalls when a small bit of dirt would settle in the fuel systems vacuum tank. Other than these minor incidents, the car could easily take a carload of us where ever we needed to go. I would not be hesitant to take this car on a daylong tour with the car club or a quick spin on a warm summer night. Unfortunately, other interest forced me to sell the car in 1988. I have been told that the new owner painted the car a bright taxi cab yellow. To each his own.
I had wanted to enter the realm of Corvette ownership with a nice driver, so the acquisition of a 1966 Corvette in the fall of 1988 was certain to fit the bill. This Corvette has the original interior and much of the original drive train components. The small block 327 (non-matching numbers) has been slightly modified with a 10:1 compression, mild Crane street cam, Elderbrock intake manifold, and topped off with a big Holly carb. The factory 4-speed transmission and side exhaust in an open convertible cannot be beat. This does seem to pose a bit of a problem on the days I drive the Corvette to work. Firing the old 8-cylinder up inside the garage at 6:30 - 7:00 in the morning has elicited a negative response from one of the neighbors so I try to keep the warm-up time to a minimum. I have kept the car maintained as needed to enjoy the car as it is rather than attempting a full restoration at this time.
