June 2, 2004 - Off to Sweden ... again!
Dear Friends, it's almost that time again!  Yes, on June 15 I head off to spend another fantabulous, bootilicious summer in Sweden!  My first stop will be that lovely haggis-filled town Edinburgh where I'll visit my friend Laura.  You'll remember from one of my entries last year that she came to see me in August and we partied like it was 2999!  After frolicking for a while there, I'll then head off to school in Sweden.  I'm just dying to know what level of Swedish I placed at.  I just finished reading my first Swedish novel the other day.  It was really easy, but quite deceiving in its ease; I've started a second one that is extremely difficult.  I have to look up tons of words and that doesn't make me feel fantabulous at all!

Now, dear Friends, my first weekend in Sweden is going to be spent in Norway!  Yes, I booked a really inexpensive flight with Nordic Airlinks.  I've never been to Norway so I'm really looking forward to that.  Then my second weekend is going to be spent in Copenhagen.  You'll remember I went there last year and had a great time.  This time I'm definitely going to the Tivoli Gardens, which I missed last year.  I thought they were sculptured gardens which I would really have liked, but standing outside of it, I realized it was just a big amusement park.  However, friends of mine have assured me that it's both an amusement park and sculptured gardens.  I don't relish going to an amusement park alone, but maybe someone from school will want to go with me.  We'll see.

The third weekend will be spent in fantabulous Helsinki and I plan once again to take the catamarand over to Talinn, Estonia.  Will the people in this new group of students be as fun as those last year?  Will I find anyone to drink champagne with me on the way back from Talinn as I did last year?  I'm just so looking forward to the whole shebang!

After I leave Sweden, I'll head back to the UK for a bit and spend some time with my friend M. in London.  I'll also make a side trip to Cambridge to see a friend there.  Alas, alack, although I like London it will signal to me that my fantabulous vacation is over and that I must return to hateful ol' work here in the Big City!

Now, as a little aside, I want you all to know that the school in Sweden has set up a group on the Internet where people can post messages, etc.  I put my website on the page and I've been getting loads of hits on it!  I just know when I arrive in Sweden, people will be asking "Who's
JOHNNYLEEN?", "Which person in all these people is JOHNNYLEEN?",  "Are you JOHNNYLEEN?"  I'll feel like a movie star!  Maybe they'll even ask me to autograph their Swedish grammar books!

That said, I'm afraid that this may be my last diary entry for a while unless I can update from across the wine-dark sea (as Homer calls it).  There is an Internet cafe near the school, but I only go there out of necessity since the school provides computers for us to check email on.  For those of you who might want to correspond with me while I'm in fantabulous Scandinavia, you can send an email to
[email protected].  There's nothing like getting letters from home to remind you of what a great time you're having away from there!
