May 16, 2003 - Off to 'Lanta
Dear Friends, late this afternoon I soar the friendly skies to 'Lanta, or as some people call it, Hotlanta.  I'll be there visiting my fantabulous sister Cordelia who lives near there with her husband and son.  That's right, my nephew calls me his dear Uncle JOHNNYLEEN.  She's picking me up at the airport and we're going straight out....do not pass GO, do not collect $200!  I can tell you it was hard trying to decide what to wear to work today that could pass for casual Friday, airline-appropriate clothing, and goin'-out-on-the-town duds!  Not only that, but I also had to pack clothes for work on Monday, because I'm coming straight to work from the airport.  Decisions, decisions.  Am I a jet-setter or what?  As I've told you before, it's exhausting being JOHNNYLEEN!

This will be a much-needed respite from the Big City where I live, I can assure you.  Life has just grown so humdrum since my delightful physical last Friday.  But then it's hard to top something that wonderful, isn't it?  There haven't even been any freaks accosting me on the streets as usual.  I did see one freaky guy where I live who has been hanging out on the sidewalk everyday for the past week, but he never says anything to me.

His name is Boris and he used to come to Ye Olde Watering Hole on a regular basis until his behavior got him banned.  He would sit at the bar watching TV and then start howling at it like a dog.  Other times he would talk to an imaginary companion beside him.  It was always really strange and I was a bit afraid of him frankly.

Well there are tons of people in the community who have known Boris for 20 years or more, but I get no consistent story of what's wrong with him.  I heard from one person that Boris used to work with horses and got kicked in the head by one.  Another person told me that he had been heavily involved in drugs.  I suspect the story lies somewhere between.....Boris was taking drugs when he got kicked in the head by a horse.

Now, speaking of my physical, Dr. Gonzalez called yesterday with the lab results and gave me a clean bill of health.  My cholesterol was 228, slightly above normal, and he said not to worry about it.  That means that in Atlanta I can have my favorite breakfast of bacon, eggs, steak, french fries, and cakes o'lard.  And I must say that I'm in a better frame of mind today than I've been in a while.  I think travelling gives me something to look forward to.  However, I'm a bit zonked.  I went to bed at 7:00 so that I could get up at 4:00 a.m. and pack!  It was like living the life of a chicken except that I didn't lay an egg.

As I said earlier, I've not encountered any freaky people lately, but I just know all that will change when I go to Atlanta.  I'm sure it's just chock full-o' nuts longing to offer me boogers and booze!  Then I'll have plenty to write about.  Not only that, I'm sure Cordelia and I will have all sorts of high-class shenanigans that I can report to you.
