So much to write...so little motivation. I don't mean to sound cranky and old, but I haven't slept much lately. So what's been up since last year? Wow. That question is overwhelming. I'm going to pretend I didn't just ask it. Let's start with last week.
CYM lock-in on Friday: It was really good. We had a smaller group of youth, but it was a personal setting and more relational then any previous lock-ins that I've been involved in thus far. What's more is that I got a chance to get to know more of my teammates better which is always awesome. Yes, I did sleep and it was the best hour of sleep I've had in quite a while.
Saturday...I'm drawing blanks on Saturday. I remember the Servant Hands event downtown at the Salvation Army shelter. That was a great experience. Maybe we'll get a group to go down once a month or so. Let me know if you're interested. It reminded me of something very important. Jesus said, "Where I am, there my servant will be also." (quoted to best of my memory) He would be...and IS there. We'll look into a ministry team or something for that.
Sunday was spent enjoying the company of friends and playing some Ultimate frisbee. Do you like to have fun? Do you play ultimate frisbee with me on Fridays and Sundays? If your answers were yes/no respectively - give me a call. You should play. That is the only sport I would quit cc for if it was an NCAA sport.
Monday, welcome back to reality. I often complain that classes really get in the way of college. In a way, it's half true. I think I learn an equal amount of valuable information from experiences out of class as I do in class. Maybe that's just me, but experience has always been a good teacher. Balance is good though.
Tuesday came and went - not because it wasn't busy but because it was insane. Back to back classes and activities until NOIZ that night.
Black Wednesday, that's what I'm calling it. It was yesterday that Uncle Frank met his maker. I returned from DCE council to find a group of friends waiting to console me - much appreciated. His viewing was later that day.
Thursday, I decided my next fish will be named Uncle Steve. I meet with Coach Risch in an hour to decide whether or not I will be on the track team. I don't like track much.
That's really all for now. Peace brothers and sisters. ~Johnz
Today was great. Being Sunday, I went with ten friends to Saint John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton. It was great. After church we watched a presentation for Blind Missions. The pastor who gave the presentation was blind himself, but he was great to listen to and made me think about things a bit differently. It was really moving. I never realized before that the majority of blind people don't go to church because most aren't equiped to meet thier needs. (braille bibles, etc...)
Today was spent wondering around campus filming things and making goofy videos. I also updated the pictures on the sight-as you can see in the ";Concordia Fun" link. For those of you who haven't checked out our latest production- "Sign the Box"- let Matt or I know if you'd like to see it. Steph gives it four stars! We'll make copies and send them to anyone who wants one.
Lastly, I wanted to record a list of the books I am currently reading for school: "Death's Men", "The Crucible", "God's Yes and God's No", "Family Ministry", "Spirit Driven Youth Ministry", "The Language of Genesis", "Animal Farm", "Fellowship of the Rings", "The Christian Faith", "Prayer", and three more I can't remember the titles of. I love reading but I think I am over my head this time... Time will tell.
I'm sorry...it's been a while since I've updated. Thank you to all who kept nagging me about it as if it were important- Mark Bajus! I spent some of today playing Super Smash Brothers with Steph, Matt, and Ray. The rest was used up catching up on my reading for classes and hanging out with Katrina, Mark, and Rachel Too. We played Euchre. Mark and I dominated- my record at Concordia is 8-1. The four of us are now chatting/updating our web pages :) Time is flying by. In case you weren't aware. Aaron Van Housen's birthday was on the 14th, Rebekah Genter's on the 15th, and I'm pretty sure that Ashley Beard's is on the 21st- take into consideration that I have the memory of a...person with bad memory. I'll do my best to add some more pictures from around campus in a few days. Adios.
As you can see by the month long lapse in posts...it's been busy. The cross country season ended yesterday. It was an awesome season. We won our conference meet with 6 of the top 8 places! My family came to watch the meet, which was awesome. My time was a bit slower then Lake Forest. Regionals was amazing. We stayed the night in Peoria, Illinois and had some fun before venturing out to the course the next day. It was 30 degrees and snowing when we went to the line. We were all really pumped. This race hosted the top teams in a multi-state area. I wasn't so concerned with getting a certain place or time. I just wanted to run my hardest and glorify God who had kept me free from injury, pulled me through the tough practices, and gave me the opportunity to run again. He's been so good to me. The race came and went. I left everything I had on the course and have no regrets. It was an awesome race and I felt blessed to be there. It was sad to see the season come to an end.
Other things have been keeping me rather busy lately. My good bud Aaron came to see me for the weekend two weeks ago. That was really nice. Not much else is really worthy of note right now. I'm reading "The Hammer of God" which, so far, is an awesome book! Also, I'm coming home for Thanksgiving break on November 25th...which is really soon. That's all for now.
I just got done watching Mothman Prophecies. It was a great movie, in my opinion. This morning's cross country practice was twelve 400 meter sprints at 70 seconds eache and 2 miles of jogging. My knee was hurting really badly, and I didn't think I'd be able to run all 12, but I survived. I heard recently that the guy who invented gatorage is coming to Concordia soon...that'll be cool. Tonight was a DCE fellowship meeting. It was much fun. We all sat together at a long table and had our hands tied together. We were then given ice cream and toppings and had to make sundaes with our hands bound to one another! It was a messy ordeal. After that we had a devotion.
