The Shang Dynasty

The Shang is the earliest Chinese dynasty that we have evidence of. The Shang civilization was towns united under the king of Shang. The center of the Shang domain can be found in the Northeastern and Earten parts of Henan. The king lives in the center of the city. All cities were built with wooden beams covered with mud. For protection, each city was covered by a wall. In the walls there were military protection and religious centers. All cities look exactly the same and are identical to each other. The capital of Shang moved seven times and finally settled in it's permanent capital, Yin.

The nobles spent most of their time in war or hunting for animals. When they capture game or a P.O.W. they sacrifice them to their god. In some instances P.O.W.s instead were converted into slaves. When a city was raided they would take their food, metals, livestock and the people of the city along with them. In royal tombs bronze was found along with three-hundred servants buried. It was said the skeletons were supposed to accompany the king into heaven. When they wanted to communicate with their ancestors they would offer sacrifices or by reading cracks from burnt bones.
