On March 1st, 2005 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that executing juveniles is unconstitutional. Johns sentence has been commuted to life and he has been moved off death row. In Texas a life sentence means serving 40 years before being eligible for parole. John has been on death row since 1996.
The fight for Johns life is not over, death row or general population, from one cage to another, he is still an INNOCENT man whose life was taken from him at 17. Capital offenders in Texas who are serving a life sentence are not given the opportunity to have a court appointed attorney handle their appeal process. John still has appeals pending in federal court but he has lost his court appointed counsel when his sentence was commuted, without a dedicated attorney these issues could be lost forever.
John still needs all the support he can get, he now has the rare chance to fight for his life without a death sentence hanging over his head! Anyone wanting to help by making donations to help hire a lawyer on his case please click the link on the left for more information on the JUSTICE FUND.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED JOHN |
