John Franklin Candy, was born on the very cold day of October 31st, 1950 - in Toronto, Canada. On that cold day though, was a man who would come to warm the hearts of many, and revolutionize what comedy should be. John became interested in acting at a very early age acting around his home. In the early 70's he had small roles on such projects as "Coming Up Rosie," and "Dr. Zonk and the Zonkins." At the age of 25 - himself, Eugene Levy, Martin Short and a handful of other today-known actors created SCTV. A hilarious 30 minute comedy sketch that gained enormous popularity, enormously fast. Which gave America a glimpse of the man who would revolutionize comedy, and Hollywood in a way it had never seen.

In 1994, his career was soaring, (as it had since his start in 1974) - when tragedy struck. While on the set of "Wagon's East" in Durango, Mexico, John had a heart attack and died on March 4.. John was at the young age of 43. Family, and friends were shocked. America had lost it's Candy. The Candy whom had kept it happy for so long, was gone. And the only question was, "why?" An autopsy revealed one of the arteries in John's heart was fully blocked. He had quit smoking and was on a diet to lose weight. He had wanted to lose weight for some time, but was worried of the image his fans had established of him and what they would think. John was layed to rest in Holy Cross Cemetary in March of 1994. You can see his grave on this page, or go to the Holy Cross Cemetary website by clicking above. John was a man who loved life to the fullest, and will forever be remembered in the hearts of many as, one who left a mark, that can't be erased. He was and still is, to many, the greatest comedian and among the greatest men to ever live.
With the success of SCTV, it was obvious that it wouldn't be long before a movie beconned. Something Candy had longed to do. No longer than 1/2 a year after SCTV hit the airwaves - Candy starred in his first full feature-length film called, "It Seemed Like a Good Idea At The Time." It was a moderate success...but it propelled Candy's carreer into orbit spanning 51 films, a hit cartoon show, and countless numbers of fans!! John loved life to the fullest, and he loved the people around him, (which included the MASS number of fans) He was always the kind of rare celebrity that would stop and take the extra time to chat with a fan. He was a loving husband, and loving father.
