Uyuni - Southwest Bolivia (11-13 Nov. 1999)

The llama probably enjoyed the views of the cacti too. The farmers living left of Salar de Uyuni, on the other hand, didn't enjoy much, especially not when they didn't get any share of the Government financial support intended for the whole region around the Salar. Therefore, they tried to charge all tourists leaving the Salar in jeep (see below). Unfortunately for them, all tourists refused to pay and finally they had to give up.

We spent the first night on the jeep tour in a small village nearby the Salar. We acquainted us with the other jeep passengers by strolling and playing cards with them. The next morning we left for the endless wastes of Southwest Bolivia. This part of the tour was a cascade of natural wonders, beginning with one of several flamingoe inhabited "lagunas" (see below).

Additional such lagunas with even more flamingoes would follow, but they were mixed with intermediate highlights like one of the highest active volcanoes in the world (Ollage 5868 m.a.s.) and strange rock formations. A potpurri of great sights from the last two-three days of this tour is displayed next...
