Uruguay (20-29 Jan. 2000) |

This time in Argentina was all about transportation. In Posadas we entered an air conditioned bus that was colder than our deficient clothing allowed. After having frozen for several hours we arrived in Concordia early in the morning. From here we reached next Guay-country by crossing Ro Uruguay in a small ship. Our immediate impression of Uruguay was that it seemed a bit like home. In huge contast to Paraguay, it was civilized and expensive! Even the money amounts were similar (no millions like in Paraguay). Only the temperature made us remember that we were not back home yet. The 39 degrees on the intermediate bus stop in Paysand (Uruguay's second biggest town, see below) were definitely better than January temperatures in Sweden! The land was accordingly dry, in appearance a mix of Australia, Texas and Scania. |

The next stop, Mercedes (the ranch capital of Uruguay) offered swimming and fishing possibilities in the nearby Ro Negro. Anna did some river wading and a bit too excessive sun bathing, whereas I stayed cool to cure my skin infection.
The hot weather never seemed to cease. Even the nights were hot. The fan in our bed room gave some relief (see right), but in essence we were fed up with heat and sun for the moment and decided to do some city tourism instead. The bus to the capital of Uruguay left the next morning. |
