Even the first day in the park we had got to know a globetrotter, Helmut (AUT), and a newly graduated college student, Andrew (USA), that happened to travel together. The next day we started walking together. Anna was in a great shape and ran away on the steep paths. We didn't catch up with her until we reached the second, and most beatiful lake, Lago Toro (see below). |

After some additional steep passages we reached the heart of the strange-looking forest at Lago Huerquehue. At this point, Andrew realized that he had dropped the chair that he really didn't want, but still had to bring everywhere because it was a present from his brother. He turned around, searching for it, and luckily found it immediately. Thus, we could sit down by the lake and enjoy some food (see right). Of course, the stock of food that Anna and I had brought was quite limited. In fact, our food was now all gone and we had to return to Pucn. Helmut, on the other hand, had his own carrier, Andrew, so he could continue further into the park. Anna and I followed a new path taking us through cosy forests (see strange Pehun tree behind Anna below) and past two other lakes. We started to like Americans when two different American couples voluntarily gave us a lift. The latter couple even turned around for a few kilometres when realizing that we were standing in the rain freezing. The next day we went on to Panguipulli, a small town towards the southwest. |
