El Calafate (see above) is one of the great centres for tourism in Argentinean Patagonia and the prices are as high as one might fear. Even so, we managed to find a low standard place to sleep for a reasonably fair fare.
The weather in the morning of January 7 seemed quite promising. We were going Perito Moreno, possibly the greatest place for glacier watching in South America. However, typically for this part of the world it didn't stay that promising. When we approached the Glacier it started to become cloudy and rainy. This may seem like a moderate nuisance for glacier watching, but in reality it significantly impaires the impression of the glacier because no big seracs fall down into the water without sun. Anna was a bit unhappy because of this, but the experience wasn't too bad after all (just look at the picture below!). |
