Dear Senator,

As your constituent, I am writing this letter urging you to vote in favor of House Joint Resolution 56 (H.J. RES 56) Proposing an amendment to the constitution of the United States relating to Marriage. 

As I understand the proposed amendment, marriage in the U.S. would be forevermore defined as a union only between a man and a woman.  This would also only allow those recognized as legally married to share in the benefits of that union. 

Morality was a driving force behind our constitution in the birth of our nation and it should remain so.  Though some are trying to lump traditional morality in with �hate crimes�, the truth remains the same.  Without morality laws become ineffective, society decays and a country will fall. 

Since the beginning our Founding Fathers based this nations morality on the Bible and it�s teachings.  To throw out that basis is not only wrong, it dishonors all those who lived, fought and died for us to have the liberties we do today.

In the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Note that the very foundation that began this country�s freedom from tyrannical dictatorship and wistful law gives recognition that a sovereign God, our creator, has endowed us with inalienable rights.  These rights come from God, not man.  Our country is founded on that principal.  It is therefore important that we look to God�s laws to establish what those �inalienable� rights would be.  Nowhere in God�s word, the Bible, does it outline marriage as a joining between two men or two women.  If anything, it calls such things an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.  Thus, such behavior could not fall under an �inalienable� right endowed by our creator. 

Many groups are trying to redefine marriage, morality and the constitution to allow them to live a lifestyle that goes completely against the standards and ideals our country was founded on.  What they don�t realize is it is the morality and values they want to outlaw or dismiss that has given them the freedoms they have today.

To change the rosetta stone of morality our constitution was based on is to completely redefine and destroy everything our country was built on and to dishonor the God that gives us those �inalienable� rights we all so cherish.  It is for this reason that I ask you to vote in favor of House Joint Resolution 56 (H.J. RES 56) Proposing an amendment to the constitution of the United States relating to Marriage.
