| Excerpts from Humanist Manifesto II, 1773: "FIRST: In the best sense, religion may inspire dedication to the highest ethical ideals. The cultivation of moral devotion and creative imagination is an expression of genuine "spiritual" experience and aspiration. We believe, however, that traditional dogmatic or authoritarian religions that place revelation, God, ritual, or creed above human needs and experience do a disservice to the human species. Any account of nature should pass the tests of scientific evidence; in our judgment, the dogmas and myths of traditional religions do not do so. Even at this late date in human history, certain elementary facts based upon the critical use of scientific reason have to be restated. We find insufficient evidence for belief in the existence of a supernatural; it is either meaningless or irrelevant to the question of survival and fulfillment of the human race. As nontheists, we begin with humans not God, nature not deity. Nature may indeed be broader and deeper than we now know; any new discoveries, however, will but enlarge our knowledge of the natural." - - - I am convinced that the battle for humankinds future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity that recognizes and respects the spark of what theologians call divinity in every human being. These teachers must embody the same selfless dedication as the most rabid fundamentalist preachers, for they will be ministers of another sort, utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to convey humanist values in whatever subject they teach, regardless of the educational level preschool day care or large state university. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism It will undoubtedly be a long, arduous, painful struggle replete with much sorrow and many tears, but humanism will emerge triumphant. It must if the family of humanity is to survive. J. Dumphy, A Religion in a New Age, The Humanist, Jan.-Feb. 1983 So the battle is not religion vs. reason, its one religion vs. another religion. By teaching evolution only, public schools are (perhaps unwittingly) favoring one religion over another. They must be made to understand that. Examples of action to take (from Voice of Reason Website): TAKE ACTION OR DRIFT THROUGH THE EVER GROWING FLOOD OF IMMORALITY AND GODLESSNESS THAT IS BEING FORCED ON CHRISTIANS BY SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS AND AGENDA DRIVEN DICTATORS. Edmund Burke once wrote "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Nothing could be truer. We live in a world today where 'good men' have sat idly by while agenda driven courts and rouge special interest groups have hijacked the American way of life. 'Good men' these days complain, but feel powerless to do anything else. WRONG ! There is plenty we can do. We can write, we can petition, we can enlist other 'Good men' to stand beside us and call the hijacking of our standards, our faith and our beliefs what they are...Social Terrorism. It is okay for 'Pro-choice' believers, or Atheists, or 'domestic partnership' believers to enforce their beliefs and demands on society in general and force their offensive beliefs on everyone, but let those who believe in Jesus Christ want to live a life that honors our Lord, and we are forced into court, called 'hate mongers' or 'religious simpletons' and sued. Enough is Enough. Stand up my brothers and sisters. Stand together on the rock of Christs' righteousness and do something. No longer stand by while those who deny our Lord make the rules our children and their children will have to live under. Follow this link and find out what our legislators and representatives are placing up for votes. http://www.capwiz.com/fof/home/Stand up at work, stand up in the schools. Put God back in the center of our lives where He belongs. GET INVOLVED ! Write your congressman and Senators, as hokey as that sounds, if enough of us do, they'll have to listen. If not to our letters, then to our votes. Write them and write them often. Don't let a generic, form letter be a good enough response. Call them on their actions if they don't listen. Talk your friends, family members, Church members and co-workers into writing and taking action too. Be bold enough to run for office yourselves. Do NOT simply lie down and let immorality, wickedness and sin dictate the world we live in. Jesus told us to be the 'salt' and the 'light' of the world. Are you being 'salty' and 'bright' enough? or are you being washed away by the flood of the minority but loud immoral special interest? |
