JOEMOE MODELS
SHOWCASE 1
Caledonian Railway Pacific
This locomotive is a model of a 'might have been'.  Designed by MacIntosh in 1914 for hauling expresses over the heavily graded Aberdeen line, it would have predated the GWR Great Bear and been the first pacific locomotive in Britain if WW1 had not brought the project to a halt.
This cancellation may have saved the C.R. some embarrassment as the excessively long boiler would probably not have produced enough steam to feed the four cylinders.  The model has a certain charm with the Edwardian cab contrasting with the more modern design of the rest of the locomotive.
Scratch built including the bogie castings on the tender.  Like the prototype this remained an unfinished project.
Caledonian Railway 4-4-0 Tank Locomotive
I built this locomotive back in the early seventies for a projected layout illustrating the Caledonian Railway (I liked the colour of the locos and rolling stock)  I got as far as one loco and two coaches.  This loco was scratch built in brass and nickel silver, hand painted and lined using home-made transfers.
The coach was scratchbuit from plasticard, hand painted and fully lined.
LNWR Jumbo 'Hardwick'
Scratchbuilt from brass and nickel silver, the prototype of this locomotive was imortalised for its part in the great race to the north in the eighteen nineties.  O. S. Nock's book describing this race gave the inspiration for this model.
There is a lot of handmade detail in this locomotive - all the rivets were embossed individually and the tool boxes and water filler on the tender were constructed and detailed from sheet metal and wire.

The prototype for this model was designed by Webb for the London North Western Railway in the eighteen-nineties.  They were a long lived engine and some survived until the last days of steam.
The model was constructed from a Mercian kit and fitted with Slaters wheels and a Mashima motor.
The London Midland and Scottish (LMS) livery dates it any time from the early nineteen twenties to the late nineteen forties.
