50. Theophilus Parmenter Sr.⁽⁴⁾ was born in 1785 in Edgecombe Co., NC.^{(5) (6)} He signed a will on 24 Aug 1842 in Hopkins County, KY. ⁽⁷⁾ He died on 9 Oct 1842 in Hopkins County, KY. ⁽⁸⁾ The Surname PARMENTER will also be spelled PERMENTER. It is unclear as to the cause of this variation.

NOTE: PARMENTER Name LDS Ref. No's# 862,011-4; 901,219-5; 862,018-1 & 3; He was married to Mildred "Millie" Parker in 1803 in North Carolina. ⁽⁹⁾

51. Mildred "Millie" Parker was born about 1785 in Gates Co. NC. ⁽¹⁰⁾ Compiler Barbara B. Davis notes that Lorenzo's brother Eli shows their mother as being born in Virginia. This is in conflict w/the Kentucky census records which indicate her birthplace as being in North Carolina.
The assumption is made here that probably Eli's input is more reliable due to his personal contact witness as opposed to the second hand record of a census taker, recorded a significant period of time after the event. Also, it is in question who the supplier of that information was to the census taker. She died on 10 Oct 1853 in Crittendon Co., KY. Children were:

ii. Elizabeth Parmenter^{(11) (12)} was born on 14 Feb 1805 in North Carolina. ⁽¹³⁾
iii. William Parmenter was born about 1807.
iv. Eli B. Parmenter^{(14) (15)(16)} was born about 1811 in Hawkins Co. TN.⁽¹⁷⁾ He died about 1885 in Hopkins County, KY. On p.214 the entry for PARMENTER clearly demonstrates the various spellings of this SURNAME are all legitimate branches of the same root. The Family name of PARMENTER is now documented as having these variations in the mainline of the ancestors: Parmenter; Parmentar; Permenter; Parmintor; Parminter; all from an original spelling of PARMENTIER.
v. Catherine (Katherine) Parmenter was born about 21 Nov 1812 in Kentucky. ^(18)(19) She died in 1842 in Hopkins County, KY. She was also known as Catherine Permenter. ⁽²⁰⁾ She must have been represented with both spellings, since her father was PARMENTER and she is shown in a census as PERMENTER. This is a common problem with this name as evidenced by her cousin James Madison Parmenter & his brother being known by several spellings.
vi. Theophilus Parmenter Jr.^{(21) (22)} was born on 8 Jul 1818 in Tennessee. ^(23)(24) Using the entry @ the bottom of p.7, which indicates that Theophilus was 42 yrs. old at the census of 8 Jul 1860, this produces a birth date of 8 Jul 1818. He died in 1864. This entry must be for Theophilus Jr. because his Dad had passed away before this census occurs. His Great-Great Grandfather James Permenter, Sr. has official documents with his variation, yet Theophilus and others will spell their name as PARMENTER.
vii. Lorenzo Dow Parmenter Sr.^{(25) (26)} was born on 17 Dec 1820 in Kentucky. He was Surname Variation in 1840 in Kentucky. The spelling of the family name "PARMENTER" will vary from PERMENTER to PARMENTAR from here on. He immigrated in 1860 to Oak Ridge, Stoddard Co., MO. ⁽²⁷⁾ Lorenzow entered into Missouri in 1860 and continued his trade as a Blacksmith near Oakridge Mo. in Stoddard County. He died on 7 Jun 1890 in Concord Cemetary, Oakridge MO.⁽²⁸⁾ He was buried on 10 Jun 1890 in Concord Cemetary, Oakridge MO. ⁽²⁹⁾
viii. Emelia Parmenter was born about 1825 in Kentucky.
