| In this months article I will discuss random info about the Dreamcast that you never herd of! Random Fact #1: Did you know in Japan, the original white and light gray Dreamcast was released first, with an orange swirl logo on the case and the accessories. Quite a few special editions have also been released. Here is a list in chronological order: Mazyora: The first special edition was the "Mazora". Mazora is a Japanese company that deals with motorcycles and cars. Seaman 1: The second special edition was a white skeleton version (transparent plastic) released with the game 'Seaman', the microphone peripheral, a transparent vmu and a music CD. Hello Kitty 1 and 2: One transparent pink, the other transparent blue, these editions include a pink or purple controller, vmu, keyboard and the Hello Kitty Dream Passport software. Seaman 2: The Christmas Seaman Dreamcast is entirely red, and comes with a vmu and controller, both the same color as the console. Included is a special communication package which allows you to send voice messages (using the Dreamcast microphone) over the net. There's a silhouette picture of Seaman on the drive lid too. Code Veronica 1 and 2: To celebrate the Japanese release of Capcom's successful series 'Resident Evil' on the Dreamcast, two specials machines were released. One is transparent dark purple, with a S.T.A.R.S logo on the lid, the other is transparent dark red (The 'Claire-edition'). Both have matching controllers and a light purplish gray vmu. Of course both are bundled with the game. Only the top plastic cover is colored, the bottom piece is standard gray. Fuji Television 'Devers 2000 Series CX-1': A combination TV/Dreamcast with a cool design - lots of curves and colors (it's designed to look like a Morolien from the game 'Space Channel Five'). Its light blue with little antennae on the top and the 4 Dreamcast controller ports under the screen. Sakura Taisen: This Dreamcast was made after the very successful games (almost 20 made in 3 years made for the Dreamcast by Sega) in Japan. The face of the Dreamcast has the games name and its 8 main characters and came with pink controller with the logo and vmu. D-Direct (Dreamcast-Direct, now called Sega-Direct, its Sega of Japans official online store) Series Dreamcasts: There was a host of them made we know at the time of only 3, each limited to a 200 system production. Sonic 10th Anniversary: The Sonic 10th Anniversary Dreamcast honors the 10 years since the creation of Sonic. The brand the logo of Sonic and his colors on the console, controller with Sonic Teams logo and a Sonic vmu. They also sold a matching 4X vmu. R7: The R7 Dreamcast are Japanese Dreamcasts that were used as network consoles in pachinko parlors in Japan. The R7 package came with the black R7 Dreamcast, matching controller and Broadband adapter. The bad thing is that they can't play Sega games, but were sold as a special edition in Japan to everyday people too clear out there stock of them in August 2001. Silver: The Dreamcast silver edition was the last special edition Dreamcast to be released. There were only 200 of the Silver Dreamcasts made. While in Japan there has been many special edition Dreamcast in America we havn't been so lucky. Here is a list in chronological order: Holiday Dreamcast: The Holiday season in 1999 was a great one with the release of the Dreamcast (one year after Japan) and this great festive Dreamcast. The package includes console, Sonic Adventure, Rippin� Riders, clear red controller, clear green controller, clear red vmu, clear green vmu, keyboard, Internet browser disk, game sampler, Holiday wrapping paper, Sonic holiday card and a Sega Sports NFL 2K poster. Sega Sports: This jet black colored Dreamcast was made in the honor of sports and featured Sega Sports logo on the top of the Dreamcast and controller. The package includes black Dreamcast console, matching control pad, NFL 2K and NBA 2K. Smash Pack: The last of the Dreamcast package to be released in North America was just a normal Dreamcast but was packed a Sega Smash Pack volume 1 which was a collection of these great Sega games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage 2, Phantasy Star 2, Altered Beast, Columns, Shining Force, Wrestle War, Golden Axe, Vectorman, Sega Swirl, and Virtua Cop 2. Random Fact #2: Did you know Sega of America never released a offical Dreamcast light gun. While they did in Japan, Sega of America didn't due to the bad publicity received after the Columbine shooting incident. Random Fact #3: Did you know the Dreamcast game Maken X the main enemy is a neo-nazi group but in the American version of the Japanese FPS-like game all nazi content was removed and the enemy your fighting is a group of terrorist. Random Fact #4: Did you know that Sega of America spent 100 million dollars on a marketing campain in North America for the Dreamcast (before and after the launch). Random Fact #5: Did you know that when PSO ver. 2 was released there was over 300,000 users counting both versions! |
