I first started taking piano lessons when I was 7 at Kawai Piano Studio. My first teacher (Teacher Diana) was really cool. She was fun and jolly patient. She'd let me choose a sticker for every lesson I did well, and that was when I also started my sticker collection. Unfortunately, she had to return to Kuala Lumpur after teaching me for only a few years. My new teacher wasn't too good in terms of teaching, which perhaps, was probably why I passed my Grade 3 exam with only a credit instead of a distinction. Then I switched to Teacher Theresa, who is still my present teacher, and left Kawai to have lessons at her residence.

I've been making up my own little melodies since I was around 10. I'm more into romantic than classical music. I love playing for my church- especially learning new Christian songs, harmonizing with the congregation and learning new playing techniques from other pianists.

I started to become interested in playing the guitar when my uncle gave me his guitar. It was a really old classical one, but still nice and usable. My aunt taught me my first song- "God is so Good" which had only 2 chords, A and G. From then on, I learnt more chords from books and friends, and took a few folk guitar lessons at Grace Methodist Church. I stopped for some time due to the PMR exam coming up, and continued taking private lessons with another church member, who's a professional classical guitarist. He's really terrific! He passed Grade 8 in classical guitar with a distinction, n he learnt everything himself. A classical guitar is a beautiful instrument... (some call it the Spanish guitar). The only problem is, instead of using a pick I use fingernails, so I have to keep 4 nails on my right hand quite long and often worry about being caught at school. I barely touch my other guitar, which is acoustic.

I have never really been interested in musical theory, so I progressed on rather slowly. The only time I sat for theory examination was in 1993 (Grade 2). Right till now, I'm still stuck at Grade 5. I couldn't go for the Grade 6 RSM practical exam cos a pass in at least Grade 5 in theory was required, so I sat for Trinity. The syllabus was pretty much the same, except that they had viva voce unless you memorize the pieces, and less scales but an additional Study.

When my friend Ilissa started taking violin lessons, I was really tempted to take up violin lessons too. I seemed like fun to play in an orchestra like her. Well my mom adviced me to finish my piano and guitar courses before starting violin lessons. Besides, I've got my heart set on drums too. Geez, what a whole lotta instruments. Who minds? I just like music, even if I'm no Beethoven.
