The next morning we docked in Mazatlan, 7:00 am. We took an eight hour tour into the Sierra Madre Mountains
(a continuation of the Rockies). This tour was really nice, because we were far away from the tourist resorts
and got to see how the Mexicans really lived.
We visited Concordia, where there were many family owned factories including furniture wood carving, adobe clay brick making for construction and ceramics. The center of town, as are all Mexican towns, was a huge town square with an old, beautiful, ornate Catholic Church.

We then headed up the mountains further to a mining town dating back to 1565, called Copala. It is relatively unchanged, with it's uneven cobblestone streets and quaint homes around the town square and church. We had a "real traditional" Mexican lunch at a hilltop restaurant called Daniel's, complete with mariachi band and entertainment.
The bus headed back down the mountain to downtown Mazatlan for a drive though the resort streets to the Golden Zone, a hotel and shopping area. Tons of jewelry stores and vendors. We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Mazatlan and sailed at about 5:30.
