Introduction

The objective of this lab was to discover the identity of 5 grams of an unknown substance found in a landfill, discover how to synthesize it, and what it�s physical and chemical properties were. We used several physical and chemical tests to discover the identity of the chemical. To find how to synthesize the chemical we performed an online search for that chemical. Next we experimented with several methods until we found two that worked. Finally we performed another online search for the Material Safety Data Sheet for our chemical to find its physical and chemical properties. Finally we devised a series of tests to verify the information gleaned from the MSDS sheet.
