Jo Baker Jo Baker Writer

My writing life

I am working on several novels; including contemporary women’s fiction, paranormal romance, urban fantasy and teenage fiction. Stories of mine have reached the final shortlist in several short-story competitions- including those run by Writers’ News and Mslexia. My fiction has been published in My Weekly.

For my day job, I write funding applications. I have also written articles, book reviews and readers' letters, as well as editing a community magazine.

I will read pretty much anything- from romance to science fiction, horror and crime. Even plastic vegetable bags in supermarkets!

This has made it difficult to decide what genre I want to write. So I've allowed myself the luxury of writing several different types of books while I am still unpublished and have the time to pick and choose. There are plenty more ideas in all the boxes. Once success comes, I can decide which box to explore.

My message to fellow writers: Don't let your characters die unfullfilled. If you don't write, they'll die a lonely death!
