Lesson 8: Sharing with School Community - Part 1

In this lesson, students will extend and share "Caring Kids" themes with other members of the school community.

Objective:

Students will present conflict mediation role play scenarios to second grade students.

Materials:
None

Procedure:
1. Students will share conflict mediation role plays from previous lesson with children in second grade.
2. Fifth grade students will select a second grade student and act as a bus mentor/buddy helping to spread messages about positive traits and conflict mediation to others in the school community.
3. Discuss progress of bus buddy project during daily classroom meeting.

Note: To enhance student's responsibility in creating a sense of school community, it is recommended that older students adopt a class of younger students acting in the role of "buddies". Meeting weekly for one hour throughout the school year, older students mentor/tutor younger students in reading/language arts, math, and/or computers. This mentoring relationship can also include buddying-up on school bus and/or cafeteria.
