PROSPECT TECHNOLOGY FELLOWSHIP

 

Lesson 6: Conflict Resolution

Once students identify positive character traits, the next step is to employ them when faced with conflict.

Objective:
Students will explore being peacemakers as they learn conflict resolution techniques.

Materials:
Creative Conflict Resolution by William Kreidler - pages 18 - 20

Procedure:
Follow procedures in Creative Conflict Resolution book presenting:
1. "Cooling Off" lesson synopsis- When angry, take a deep breath and count to ten.
2. "Mediation" lesson synopsis- Problem is resolved with assistance of third impartial person (at elementary level - teacher) who listens to both sides and helps students arrive at a solution.
3. "Reflective Listening" lesson synopsis- Each participant has the opportunity to present his/her side of the argument uninterrupted. Listener employs open-listenting techniques and empathetically summarizes speaker's perspective.

4. Provide opportunity for students to practice each technique.
