ALEXANDER BAUMANN
Generation 1

BACKGROUND

ALEXANDER BAUMANN was born at Tübingen, Germany, in 1664.

Alexander Baumann married, possibly as his second marriage, on 6 August 1695, Margaretha Späth. She was born, possibly in 1654, and was the widow of Mohri.

They had one daughter, Veronica Baumann, born 3 September 1698. She married in 1722, surname Etzel, in Rieth.

Margaretha Baumann died on 30 December 1713.

Alexander married, again, on 26 February 1715, ANNA DOROTHEA LEUCHT. She was born on 13 November 1685, the daughter of Johann Georg Leucht and Maria Ruf. [Surname may have been Martini; or possibly she was Ruf, widow of Martini, or vice versa. Nothing more is known.]

LEUCHT

JOHANN GEORG LEUCHT married MARIA RUF [possibly Martini].

They had the following children:

  1. Martin Leucht, born 16 January 1684; mar. in 1709 Barbara Schill. He died in 1763.

  2. ANNA DOROTHEA LEUCHT, born 13 November 1685. She married Alexander Baumann.

  3. Maria Magdalena Leucht, born 25 December 1688; married in 1708 Elias Klotzbücher; she died 1730.

  4. Michael Leucht.

  5. Johann Michael Leucht.

  6. Maria Leucht.

  7. Johann Georg Leucht, born 12 November 1697; married in 1726, to Anna Catharina Diem.

No further information is known about the Leucht family, and it’s unknown if they were from Tübingen, or from Ochensbach.

By the time Alexander and his wife Anna had their third child, our ancestor Johann Erhardt, the family was in Ochsenbach, as his birth is recorded in the church records.

Alexander died on 21 February 1744, and Anna died on 7 June 1761.

ALEXANDER BAUMANN
Generation 3

ALEXANDER BAUMANN, was born on 14 April 1762.

Alexander married CATHARINA GÄRTNER on 22 November 1806 at Ochsenbach, Germany. Catharina was born on 25 July 1767 at Ochsenbach, Germany, the daughter of Johann Gärtner.

Prior to their marriage, Catharina had a child, Jakob Friedrich (Gärtner), born on 12 August 1791.

When Alexander and Catharina married, she was 39 years of age; and her illegitimate son would have been 15. I would guess that in those days he was by fifteen a working “adult”, being of the farming class. By the time their daughter, Elisabetha, was born, Alexander and Catharina were at Gündelbach, for that is where her birth is recorded.

Alexander Baumann died on 29 August 1834; Catharina died on 17 December 1837.
