House of Cards
The Quotes

~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~

On this page you will find all the quotes from the period of Ben&Meg's story I called
House of Cards. It starts when you know who ruins Ben&Meg's special day, and ends when Maria tumbles down the stairs and Meg sees her future with Ben falling apart, like the house of cards, the house she shared with Ben till Dr Estrada suggested Maria'd move in with them.
We all know what happened next.  So, yes, this is quite a unique page - it deals with a very painful period.  I could have opted for avoiding the painful quotes, but I decided not to. They are the indivisible part of this period of Ben&Meg's story. This fairy tale has its share of pain and anguish as any other. Hence the title and the motto of this page.  But don't get discouraged. There's not only pain here. There's also love that gets only stronger.

Whatever happened to our fairy tale, Ben?

Hank: Is it too much to ask for our children to have normal lives, Joanie?

Tim: Casey, I'm in physical therapy man.
Casey: Well, if Ben sees you, you'll be in traction.

Gregory: (to Annie) Little advice from your husband. If you knew that Maria was alive and you didn't tell Ben, the little friendship that is left between the two of you will be gone. Forever.

Sara: Why do you have this Knight In Shining Armor complex, Tim?

Annie: Of course I was surprised to see Maria! I almost had a heart attack!
Meg: Oh, only if you had.

Meg: Casey, please, please, tell me this is a nightmare and I'm gonna wake up and this is all gonna be gone, please, please!!!
Casey: Meg, Meg, I would if I could, but this is as real as it gets, honey.

Meg: This is just wrong, this is just sick and cruel. I am supposed to be his wife, I am!

Meg: I don't know what I'm... I'm gonna do. I don't know what Ben and I are gonna do.
Casey: Meg, you're gonna take it one day at a time. One, one step at a time.
Meg: But how...?
Casey: Not more than couple of hours ago I saw you and Ben make a commitment, forever.
Meg: Was it a commitment?
Casey: I saw the way you looked at each other, I heard the words you said. Meg, what you two have it's very strong, Meg. It's once in a lifetime. And it will get you through this.

Gregory overhears Annie talking to herself:
Gregory: Annie, just how it it Tim's fault that you're being kept from seeing Maria?
Annie: I was having a private conversation.
Gregory: With yourself? Maybe I should consider checking you into Cedar Oaks?

Gregory: Annie, you can deny it all you like, but I know you had something to do with her appearance here today. How? I don't know yet, but I will figure it out. And so will Ben.
Annie: Ben knows that I would never hurt Maria.
Gregory: Yes, but you'd do anything to hurt Meg. I don't think Ben would be very happy about that.

Meg: It must be a shock for you. I mean, your wife that you thought had drowned showing up on the day of your wedding.
Ben: OUR wedding.

Ben explains to Meg that he has to help Maria get her life back:
Ben: I can't just abandon her.
Meg: You wouldn't be the man I fell in love with if you did.
Ben: Meg, I love you! And I love you now more than I ever have. Those vows I said few hours ago, I meant them. And I intend to honor them. You are my wife, Meg. And I wanna be with you. Always.
Meg: But...
Ben: But nothing. Yeah, we have a lot to deal with, deal with it we will, as husband and wife, together. I just wanna know one thing.
Meg: What...?
Ben: Do you love me as much as I love you?
Meg:(jumping into Ben's embrace) Oh, Ben, I love you SO MUCH!

Dr. Estrada suggests that Meg goes to see Maria:
Annie: Over my dead body!
Hank: Don't tempt me, Annie!

Annie: You are going back with her, back where you belong.
Ben: Stop it, Annie! That's ENOUGH!
Annie: Ben...
Ben: Not another word, you understand me?!
Annie: But... After all these years and after all this pain, Maria is back, she's alive, Ben. I mean, you are going back with her, aren't you?
Ben: No one is more happy than I am at seeing Maria alive. Not a single day went by these past five years when I didn't think about her and what happened to her or if she was still alive. But then I met Meg. And today, in front of all of you I vowed to love her and cherish her for the rest of our lives and I've never meant anything as much as I meant those words today. Ever!

Maria: He must be wonderful.
Meg: He is.

Ben: What happened with Maria? She remembered anything?
Meg: No, not much. She's still pretty scared and confused.
Annie: Well, I'm sure you did everything you could...
Gregory: Annie! SHUT UP!

Meg: So, what now?
Ben: Meg...
Meg: Are we even really married?
Ben: The truth? I don't know.
Meg: So, what do we do?
Ben: Trust what we have.
Meg: What do we have? It's true, isn't it? What Annie said? That you never would have fallen in love with me if you wouldn't have thought that Maria is alive.
Ben: We can't go back, Meg. I don't wanna go back. I love YOU and that's all that matters.
Meg: That's not all that matters.
Ben: Hey, look at me. And remember this: I love you, Meg... Evans. With all my heart. And I'll never stop loving you. Ever.

Ben: We're gonna use these (tickets to Venice), soon.
Meg: It wasn't that at all. I mean, my God, Maria is alive, that's... that's incredible. We can hardly be upset about missing a trip.
Ben: Hey, come on, it's not just a trip, it's our honeymoon. We may have been cheated out of our wedding day, our wedding night. You're not gonna be cheated out of this.
Meg: It's okay.
Ben: Meg, look, I know you're putting on a brave face, but for goodness' sake, this was your wedding day! You know, the day we've been looking forward to and fought for for ages. You have to believe me, I... I would do anything to change the way things have turned out. And I am deeply sorry.
Meg: I know, it's okay.
Ben: No, it's not. I mean, you deserved that day. Come on, we should be on our honeymoon and instead you're standing here in front of me, hurting, wondering what this all means for us. Let there be no mistake. You are my wife and I am your husband. And no one can take that away from us. No one, you hear me?

Ben: You are incredible, you know that? To be thinking only of Maria at a time like this.
Meg: She's my friend. I'm not gonna stop caring about her just because she's Maria now, not Dana. Besides, I have so much and she has so little.
Ben: WE have so much.

Casey: I sure hope Meg comes through this one okay.
Sara: Well, whoever's pulling the strings really had it in for her this time.

Tim: You don't think I really knew that Dana was Maria this whole time, do you?
Meg: I don't think you knew the entire time, but I think you've known for quite a while. You and Annie both and you were up to your sick little games and you must have been turning cartwheels up and down the hall when you found out who Dana was. And you figured out that you can finally stick it to me and Ben once and for all on my wedding day!!!
Tim: Meg, I haven't been trying to stick anything into anybody!
Meg: SHUT UP!!! SHUT UP!!! Do NOT think that you are going to squirm your way out of this one! Do you remember the day I found you and Annie talking about how Maria was alive? You gave me some pathetic excuse how it was only in Annie's heart! Phuleeze, as if that little witch has a heart! You know, I may have been dumb, but I've wised up in the past twenty four hours, so why don't you just admit it? Come clean for once in your miserable, miserable, little existence!!!

Tim: You make it sound as if I went out and dug her up out of the grave or something!
Meg: Well, I wouldn't put that passed you right now.

Tim: You think I have a hidden motif for everything? [as if the answer to this one wasn't obvious, but, since Tim is slow...]
Meg: Yes, I do! Maria just showing up at my wedding reception, that was quite a ....! That must have taken some planning!
Tim: Oh, Meg, like I am so bored that I... I gotta come up with some sick, sick plan every waking hour of my life to break up you and Ben. [ you said that]

Annie: Ouch, Ben. You're hurting me.
Ben: Don't tempt me.

Meg: In my heart, I knew that you carried too much emotional baggage.
Tim: I carry emotional baggage? I think you should take a look at Ben. He's got enough to fill up a boxcar.

Meg: Tim came by. We got into a huge fight.
Gabi: Oh, what did he have to say this time?
Meg: Oh, you know, the usual, lies, lies and, oh, another lie.

Ricardo: What the hell was she thinking telling Maria that you two were married. Maria doesn't even know who the hell we are right now.
Ben: Well, Annie has a very warped sense of what's right and wrong.
Richardo: Well, she'd definitely warped about you.

And the conversation I REALLY enjoyed.... plus, Richardo at least noticed how Ben was more concerned about Meg than Maria... I sure hope Annie was half as smart...

Ben: It's taking way too long.
Richardo: Hey, I'm going as fast as I can! It would take half a lot longer if you were standing on the side of the road!
Ben: Maria was my wife, Ricardo, try to remember that!
Ricardo: Oh, don't you mean she IS your wife, Evans, huh?
Ben: Well, I'm not a lawyer, but in case you forgotten I married Meg yesterday.
Richardo: It's kinda hard to forget seeing how you married my sister eight years ago!
Ben: Don't get started, Ricardo. We all believed Maria was dead. You know, it was never even an option that she survived that accident.
Ricardo: Accident? I'm not buying it and I never will.
Ben: You really do not understand what Maria's death meant to me.
Richardo: Evans, you didn't love her enough, okay? Are you hearing me? You didn't love her enough and you didn't trust her enough and that's why she's out there right now with a couple of strangers and in probably more danger because of you!
Ben: Oh, you're gonna blame this one on me, too?
Ricardo: I'll do whatever the hell I want. She'd never been your priority. She wasn't five years ago when you didn't believe in her, and she sure as hell wasn't last night when she caught your bride's wedding bouquet!
Ben: Oh, go on, you're making a lot of sense...

Meg: I don't know what to do, I don't know. Dana was my friend, now Maria, she can't be, can she? She's... she is Ben's wife!
Joan: Meg, YOU are Ben's wife. In every way that counts.

Joan: (to Meg) Honey, these are horrible circumstances, but you know where Ben's heart is!

Sara: You have this incredible man, who told you how much he loves you, he told EVERYBODY, yesterday, at your wedding, that he doesn't love anybody but you.
Meg: Sara, that was before his ex-wife caught my wedding bouquet.
Sara: I'm sorry, but I don't buy that. Look, I saw how he looked after you, after he got over the initial shock. You seem to forget how much he loves you.

Meg: I don't believe this, this isn't happening.
Ben: Meg, Meg, Meg...
Meg: You're still legally married to her, to Maria, not me... We're not even really married?
Ben: Meg...
Meg: This can't be happening, this can't be happening. Please, tell me this isn't true, please, tell me this isn't true!
Ben: Believe me, I wish I could. Look, look, I know it all seems hopeless, but I'm not giving up and I don't want you to either.
Meg: I can't, I... I... I can't do this anymore, I can't keep fighting like this.
Ben: Then I'll just have to fight for both of us. Meg, come on, don't give up on me, believe in me. I promise you, I will not stop until we have the future we deserve. And that's a future with each other.

Maria: You claimed that you cared about me.
Annie: I do, you're my best friend and I love you.
Maria: You couldn't know the meaning of the word!

Annie: I mean, the truth was gonna come out eventually. What difference does it make where or when it was?
Maria: What difference does....? Gosh, is she for real???
Gregory: Oh, yeah.

Annie: The old Maria, she, she understood the crazy things I did and she loved me in spite of them.
Maria: The old Maria doesn't sound very smart. [Amen]

Dr. Estrada: If Maria is ever going to get her memory back her only hope is to live here with you and Ben.
Ben: That's out of the question.
Meg: Ben...
Ben: Dr. Estrada, I wanna help Maria as much as anyone, but I'm not about to do anything that will hurt Meg in the process, is that clear?
Dr. Estrada: I don't want to hurt Meg either.
Ben: The answer, Dr. Estrada, is NO.

Ben: (to Meg) Look, I can see how worried you are about Maria and I love you for that, but someone's gotta worry about you and that's me.

Ben: Why don't you tell me what's really bothering you?
Meg: Well, I just think that there's more to you not wanting Maria living here than your concern for me.
Ben: Such as?
Meg: I just think that you're wondering what will happen if you live with Maria again, day in and day out.
Ben: I'm afraid you've lost me.

Meg talks to Ben that the only way they can get married is for Maria to get her memory back:
Ben: It will happen, I promise you.
Meg: How can you be so sure?
Ben: Because we were meant to be together. It's as simple as that.

Ben: I don't pretend to have all the answers. I don't know how Maria is gonna get her memory back or what she's gonna feel when she does. But I do know one thing.
Meg: What?
Ben: I love you and I wanna spend the rest of my life with you.
Meg: As many times as you've said that since we found out about Maria, I... I can't hear that enough right now.
Ben: Then I'll just have to keep saying it until you know it's true.
Meg: I know it's true, I'm just worried about Maria.
Ben: Look, we'll find a way to help her, without loosing what we have in the process.

Ben: I haven't seen you all day. And I've missed you.
Meg: I've missed you, too.
Ben: And I've missed something else, too. [ NOW you're talking!]

Meg: I was thinking about your wife. Maria.
Ben: I don't care what lawyers say, Meg. YOU are my wife now.

Meg: What if Dr. Estrada is right? What if the only way for us to help Maria get her memory back is to have her move in here?
Ben: I am NOT about to let you put yourself through living hell out of guilt.
Meg: What if I can help her?
Ben: You're NOT gonna be Maria's caretaker! I think... I think you've given up enough already. Look, I love you and we will get through this.

Tim: I am your only hope.
Maria: Let me tell you something, Tim! If you are my only hope I have got bigger problems than I thought!

Ben: Do you have the slightest idea what this is doing to her?! Be constantly bombarded with this ridiculous suggestion?
Dr. Estrada: Meg isn't my concern, Ben. Maria is.
Ben: Well, that's pretty obvious, but Meg's mine. She's my wife and I'd like to protect her!

Maria: Tim, Ben and Meg are in love. You have to let her go.

Meg: Seeing her - first instinct is to help her.
Ben:(angrily) My first instinct...!!
Meg: She's all alone and she needs help!
Ben: I know. I just don't want you to pay the price for it.
Meg: Ben, this is Maria's best chance at getting her memory back. You can't just let this slip away because you want to protect me!
Ben: What am I supposed to do now? Just stand by and let you get hurt now?
Meg: I won't be hurt. Not as long as we keep loving each other.
Ben: I don't know.
Meg: Please, please, just tell me that you will give this a chance, that you believe in us enough to try!

Maria:(to Ben) It's easy to see why Meg loves you so much. But that's where your place is now. With Meg. Only Meg.

Meg: What if she told you she loved you now again?
Ben: That wouldn't matter.
Meg: Of course it would matter.
Ben: No, it wouldn't. Not to us. Meg, I can't put into words how grateful I am that Maria is alive. But five years is a long time and from the moment I saw her I never even considered going back to her.
Meg: She loses so much if she loses you, Ben.
Ben: Maybe. We lose more. Meg, I will never stop loving you. Never.

Ben: Thank you for understanding. You're incredible woman.
Meg: It's not completely selfless. If Maria doesn't get her memory back she can't be declared competent to sign the divorce papers so we can get married.
Ben: True, but all the same, I know you care for her. With all she did to us. And it makes me love you even more.

A word of explanation before we go on. When these episodes were playing in the US I read a comment on one of the boards, which said: "Sara is the voice of truth in this series". Once I saw these episodes I can only second that with all my heart. Sara may be a 'lost soul' right now, but she WAS speaking for all of us, Ben&Meg fans. And as time has shown - she was right, even if not always. But she WAS speaking our minds.
Later on, I also quote a lot of Hank's remarks, for one simple reason. However sad it was what he was saying - he was speaking for me, too. Even if I didn't like what he was saying.

Ben: Sara! She understands.
Sara: Ben! That's the problem! Meg ALWAYS understands. I don't think you realize how much this is hurting my sister!
Ben: Sara, I promise you, I would never do anything to hurt your sister. I think you know I love her.

Meg leaves to take Maria's things to Carmen's:
Meg: Will you miss me?
Ben: More than you know.

Ben: You really would go to any length to make sure we have a future together, wouldn't you?
Meg: Wouldn't you?
Ben: I think you know the answer by now.

Sara: I'm sorry, but I... I can't believe this! Ben's wife comes back from the dead and you need her permission to say that the past is the past and you're allowed to marry Ben?! Meg! There's really something wrong with this picture!

Meg: Dr. Estrada has one goal. And that is to get Maria to remember. My feelings and Ben's feelings - that's not the point.
Sara: Yeah, that IS the point, Meg! You are not the lame duck in this equation!

Meg: Ben will never hurt me.

Sara: Look, it's just that I love you and I don't want you to get hurt.
Meg: Then trust me.
Sara: That's not you I don't trust.

Ben:(to Maria) I think I can see pretty clearly that the only person you feel safe around is Meg. And I understand that. She makes me feel that way, too.

Ben:(to Meg) Seems there's nothing I can do to change her mind. She doesn't wanna hurt you. And neither do I.

Ben: We never seem to be alone these days.
Meg: Well, we are right now. And I think that we should do it more often.
Ben: Then maybe it's a good thing that Maria isn't living with us.
Meg: I couldn't agree more.
They kiss but the doorbell interrupts them.
Meg: Maybe we should just move far, far away from here?
Ben: Maybe you're right. Just don't move from here.
Meg: I won't.

Meg: We can't get married until she signs the divorce papers and shecan't do that until she gets her memory back.  Having her move in with us is the best chance she has for that.
Ben:(takes her in his arms)  Believe me, it will happen.
Meg: Ben I do believe you and I believe in our future together.
Ben: And I am living for the day it's official between us and when ithappens believe me it will have been worth everything we have been through together.
Meg: I hope so.
Ben: I know so.  I've never met anyone like you Meg.  (Meg looks sad and down at the ground) What is it? What did I say?
Meg: I don't think that is true.  I think you have met someone like mebefore.  And you married her too.  Her name is Maria.
Ben: What are you talking about Meg?
Meg: We are a lot alike Maria and I.
Ben:  You are not "atoll" alike.
Meg: We are the same height, dark hair, our... our faces are shaped alike. We even have similar personalities.
Ben: Well, that's not remotely true.
Meg: Maybe she was different before her memory loss.  I don't know. I didn't know her then.  Ben come on,  you can't tell me that you've never thought about that.
Ben: You mean, I chose you as a substitute for my dead wife?  That's ridiculous.
Meg: Is it ridiculous?
Ben: If anything the "reverse" is true. You're unique Meg.  You are also very special. Don't you know what you mean to me?
Meg: I'm trying, Ben.
Ben: I love YOU!  Only you!  Your the one who saved me for goodness sake!  The one who opened up the world to me again.  And I will love you until my DYING BREATH and there is not a damn thing I can do about it or want to do about it.
Meg: Ben, please make it true. Please!
Ben: It IS true.

Hank just found out that Maria moved in with Ben and Meg:
Ben: Listen everyone! Maria's doctor...
Hank: Ben, get her another doctor!  [I second that!!!]

Ben: Look, we have to do what's best for Maria, we owe her that much.
Hank: What about Meg? How about what you owe Meg? She seen the wedding of her dreams vanish before her
eyes...
Meg: Dad, don't...
Hank: What do you do? How do you reward her? You invite your ex-wife, your... your current wife, whatever the hell she is, and let let live with you?!
Joan: Hank!
Hank: No, no, no! No! Please, explain, explain to me, how in God's name you do this to someone that you say you love?! [ I really wanted to hear an answer to this one...]

Meg: I just think that it's best for Maria that everyone goes home now.
Hank: Including Maria.

Hank: This whole damn thing has gotten fiasco written all over it!

Ben: Listen, Maria. If... if Meg didn't support your living here you wouldn't be here, that much I promise you.

Meg: You don't think that I can control my own life, do you?
Hank: Yeah, I do, I just don't think you can control Maria's, darling! And you know what? You shouldn't have.

Ricardo: Momma, momma, listen! Maria is not Ben's priority, okay? She wasn't back then before there was a Meg, she sure as hell isn't now that there is one.
Carmen: You forget what you need to forget, don't you?
Ricardo: What do you mean?
Carmen: Ben loved your sister desperately.
Ricardo: Yeah, well NOW he desperately loves MEG!

Casey:(to Meg) As far as I can tell Ben isn't going anywhere. Except home. To you.

Casey: Knowing it's you who has to put up with all this it's no surprise you're handling this as well as you are.
Meg: Oh, this is handling it?! Going off at my dad, being a self-pitying machine, run to you?
Casey: Meg, this isn't a self-pity! It's called fighting. Meg, you are a fighter. That's why you left Tim at the altar in Kansas and came here, isn't it?
Meg: Yeah, and fell off the pier and nearly killed myself, if it wasn't for you.
Casey: Meg, you saved yourself. You had the guts to leave home and everything that you thought was safe. You took a chance, just like you are right now with Maria.
Meg: It is a chance.
Casey: But the odds are in your favor. Meg, trust yourself. Trust your love for Ben. Trust his love for you.

Sara: You lost your job?
Tim: I sold my Liberty Corporation stock to Annie Douglas thinking that she might keep quiet about Maria, but Gregory found out and he was pretty... No, he was kinda... kinda mad.
Sara: Yeah, yeah, and now you're kinda unemployed!

Casey: Hang in there, Meg, okay? Ben's gonna stick with you, I know it. Maria is a great person, no one will argue that, but I don't see how anyone could pick another woman over you.

Annie: I... I... I was just trying to help Maria.
Ben: It's a wonder she has a shred of sanity left after your help.

Annie: Have you forgotten about the history the three of us had? Your wife, my best friend, we were like a family.
Ben: I hadn't forgotten, Annie, but the way you've behaved for the past two years makes me think you did.

Ben: (to Annie) Whatever Maria and I shared or the three of us shared, Meg is my life now.

Annie:(to Ben as he's walking her to the door) Look, I've been thrown out enough, I know the drill.

Annie: Meg, hi, it's great to see you.
Meg: Well, the feeling is not mutual.

Joan: I had stood by time and time again and watched you do everything in your power to ruin my daughter's happiness. You are selfish, you're immoral and you're spoiled and I'm not gonna tolerate any more of it. I'm through being polite to you.
Tim: Mrs. Cummings, I wanted to talk about...
Joan: Don't you Mrs. Cummings me, Tim! You sank just as low as she has. (...) I'm gonna tell you two something. Ben and Meg have a love that's like the kind I have with Hank. It's timeless, it's pure and it's a lot stronger than any little sick plan you two can come up with.
Annie: Maria is not a sick plan. Maria is a reality.
Joan: You leave that poor woman out of this, you made her suffer enough! If either of you has a shred of decency left [very unlikely] you will stop what you're doing and if you don't, you answer to me.
Annie: No, you listen to me, lady. You see, I won't have to lift a finger. Because Ben has loved Maria long before Meg and her straw field little head decided to get the crazy notion to move to Sunset Beach and turn our lives upside down.
Joan: You're right. Ben did love Maria. But he loves Meg now. You better get used to it because that's not gonna change. You've been warned.

Sara: I wish you told Dr. Estrada just to mind her own business!
Meg: What am I supposed to do? Go against everything that Maria's psychiatrist thinks?
Sara: I don't care what kind of degree is hanged on her wall, Meg! I think this really stinks!

Sara: Just because this is happening don't let this get in the way of letting Ben know who it is who really loves him. Not five years ago, but RIGHT NOW!

Gabi: I understand how much you're giving up to help Maria. But is this really what she thought would be going on here tonight when she sent you two off for dinner?
Ben: And just what is going on, Gabi? I'm doing this for Meg! All of it! And no matter what you or Ricardo or anyone else thinks that is my only objective! To get Maria well so that Meg and I can be together!

Ben: I have never seen you like this.
Meg: Like what?
Ben: So determined.
Meg: Well, I'm not gonna let anything get in my way. I want you to make love to me right now.
Ben: There's nothing I'd like more.

Meg: Ben, we were making love.
Ben: (smiling) I remember.

Meg: The sooner Maria remembers her past, the sooner we can go on with our future. So, please, don't waste that time worrying about me.
Ben: Well, I can't help worrying about you. I love you.

Maria: (to Ben) You're not doing this for me. You're doing this for Meg, because you love her more than anything in the world, more than you probably loved me.

Maria: I want you to tell me who you were.
Ben: I can't do that. But I can tell you who I am. And how I got this way. I am who I am now largely because of Meg.

Annie: So, I'm a secretary now, am I?
Meg: Oh, no, that would be way too much to you.

Ben: Well, when I met Meg I was still mourning you.  I... I didn't exactly meet Meg face to face for a while, actually...
Maria: Yes, she told me the story. Over the internet right?
Ben: Yeah, yeah, we didn't actually use our real names of course.  It was the most I could do to let myself feel anything anyway but as time went on I started... started feeling more.
Maria: Then you fell in love with her.
Ben: On the internet we... we sort of created a rapport, but after I met her... yeah.  I, ah, I fought her tooth and nail of course.  I  wanted to keep safely distant from everything, but.. Well, I'd lost the woman I loved. I'd lost you, Maria.  I didn't want to run the risk of going through that  pain a second time.
Maria: I had been gone a long, long time.
Ben: I know, but it...  It... it took a long time to get over you.  In fact I communicated that fact to Meg when I, well, even before I knew who she was.
Maria: I bet she didn't let you get away with that!
Ben: I guess not, she was very persistent.
Maria: Like she knew that you were meant to be together.
Ben: I suppose so.  Anyway, little by little she was able to draw me out and I became a different person because of her.
Maria: Different how?
Ben: Well, she made me someone capable of loving again. And that was something I never thought possible after loosing you.  it was probably the greatest gift I ever received
Maria: She is an amazing woman.
Ben: She didn't just love me, Maria. She gave me my life back.

Meg: You have serious case of wishful thinking, Annie.

Annie: You're in denial.
Meg: And you're insane, but it's never stopped you before.

Meg: You are so bitter about my relationship to Ben and my friendship with Maria, you can't even see straight.
Annie: You don't have a friendship with Maria.
Meg: I HAVE a friendship, you have nothing. And that's driving you absolutely crazy, isn't it?
Annie: No.
Meg: Oh, yes, it is. Not only did I take Ben away from you, I took Maria from you, too. Your best friend in the entire world and that's making you more jealous than you have ever been in your entire life.
Annie: No.
Meg: Truth hurts, doesn't it?

Meg:(to Annie) You wouldn't know how to be a friend to someone if you had an instruction manual.

Caitlin:(to Annie after Meg left) If I didn't know any better, Annie, I'd say you look right down upset.

Ben: I just spent the last half an hour telling the wrong person how much you mean to me.
Meg: Who should you been telling?
Ben: You.

Pete: Are you sure that we can't just level with your husband?
Maria: No! Besides, he is not my husband anymore. At least not in his heart.

Pete: You, know, I'm sorry. This is, ah, this is really a tough break, you know.
Maria: Don't... don't be sorry. If anything, I'm... I'm glad that he's found someone that he can share his life with. And he couldn't have chosen a nicer person than Meg.

Meg:(to Sara) See, when I first came to town, I thought Casey was SB, you know, from the Internet.
Casey: Yeah, and that was some wishful thinking on your part, I'm sure!

Sara: (to herself) Wonderful, Maria! You just had to come back and ruin everything![told ya - voice of truth, LOL]

Sara:(to Maria) You can just drop the Pollyanna act!

Casey: Meg, I got those ( chocolate covered strawberries) for you and Ben to share.
Meg: Really?
Casey: Yeah, I mean, you two have had such a rough time lately, I, well, I wanted to give you something that would remind you of the early days.
Meg: When I came into town looking for love.
Casey: Yeah, and actually finding it., Meg. With Ben. But not before overcoming some pretty major obstacles.

Casey: Oh, Meg, just think about how lucky you are guys to have what everyone DREAMS of finding: true love.

Ben's Dream:
Meg: I love you. I must be the luckiest girl in the entire world.
Ben: I am the one who's lucky. Before you came along I was alone and I was lost and you saved me, Meg.

Sara: For someone who says that they care about my sister, you have an awfully strange way of showing it.

Sara: Look, Maria, I don't wanna hurt you. But I have no idea what's going on!
Maria: That's right, you don't!
Sara: But I do know that Ben and Meg love each other and they belong together!

Ben: I think you know about Maria's condition.
Sara: Well, maybe Maria should be getting over her condition.

Ben: I don't understand.
Sara: No one understands! Not my family. We're sick and tired of standing around doing nothing while Maria ruins Meg's life!
Ben: Meg is standing by our decision and she's doing fine. [ you know some quick remedy for blindness?]
Sara: This is destroying her! But she won't say anything. That's just her.
Ben: I'm fully aware of what this is doing to my own...
Sara: What? Wife? Fiancee? What is she? And what is going to be left of her? First it was Derek. Thank God she survived your sick brother! And now she's living with your dead wife as a roommate?!
Ben: Let me ask you something. You think this is easy for me? I love Meg.
Sara: And she loves you. But this is destroying her, bit by bit all of her spirit and her faith is being willed away. If this goes on for much longer she's gonna have a breakdown and dr. Estrada will get a new patient!
Ben: I think you're overreacting. [no, she isn't]
Sara: Keep telling yourself that, Ben. When what is left is a shell of a woman that you love, when all of her heart is drained out of her.

Meg: Hi. Are you going somewhere?
Ben: Ah-huh.
Meg: Today? It's... it's Thanksgiving.
Ben: I know.
Meg: We were supposed to spend the day together.
Ben: We are. In Santa Barbara.
Meg: Are... are you serious?
Ben: Yeah, why not? Maria is off to her family. I thought it would be good time for us to spend some time alone.
Meg: What about reservations? I'm sure it's impossible to get any...
Ben: Already done. We're staying at the Old Inn, the one with the beautiful old garden. And you and I are gonna lock ourselves in a room, and enjoy the most incredible turkey dinner. Plus all the trimmings.

Meg: You want me to make up with my dad?
Ben: Well, I mean, I may be British, but I do know this Thanksgiving thing started out of some sort of truce. We might as well carry on the tradition.
Meg: I'm so lucky to have you. I love you so much.
Ben: I feel the same way.

Ben: Why don't you take your flowers, Tim, and find another turkey like yourself to share them with?

Meg: (picks up the phone) Gregory Richard's office.
Ben: Is this his beautiful, brilliant executive assistant?
Meg: Only if this is the suave, gorgeous Englishman I share my bed with.
Ben: He was a bit surprised you left so early this morning.
Meg: Well, he knew I wanted to get into work early since it was my first day back.
Ben: Ah, yes, but he was hoping you might want to stick around for more of what we enjoyed so much of in Santa Barbara.
Meg:Well, it was the best weekend I've had in a long time. Thank  you. I really needed it, we needed it.
Ben: My pleasure.

Ben:(to Gregory) Whatever is going on between me and Maria, it's secondary to me and Meg.

Ben: Gregory, this is one of those times when you need to realize that the mere fact of your thinking something does NOT necessarily make it true.

Sara: (to Maria) For somebody whose memory supposedly isn't working, you sure remember how to lie pretty well.

This is one of those rare times (okay, never happened before) when I actually second Tim. Call it "Alien Ben Syndrome":
Tim: I'm not gonna sit around while you just keep her out there twisting in the wind or to you trying to set a new record for how many times you can break a girl's heart.

Maria: Sara, I am sorry about the misunderstanding. Take care.
Sara: Of my sister? Don't worry, I will.

Tim: You know something, I think you just get off the fact that you got two beautiful women who are just drooling over you.
Ben: Are you fantasizing, Tim?

Ben:(to Meg) You know, a year from now we are gonna stand in this very spot, and I am gonna kiss you the way I did just now, and the year after that, and 50 years after that we are gonna walk out of that house, and we are gonna look at this same ocean, and I am gonna kiss you until you beg me to stop, because I love you Meg, and I intend to be with you forever.  You understand me?  Forever.

Ben:(to Meg) Look, it doesn't matter (what others say). There's no question where my heart lies.

Meg: I don't want you to have to deny any part of yourself, ever. I love you, I love who you are, I love who you've been. And that'll never change.
Ben: Well, I love you, Meg, more than anyone or anything in this world.

Meg: There are times that I wish you hadn't fallen in love with Maria first.
Ben: There's a part of me that feels the same way. But in the end it doesn't really matter, who my first love was, as long as you're my last.

Tim: Well, if it isn't Casey Mitchum, the only life guard in town who's performed more rescues on dry land than on water.

Ben: Our love inspires me, Meg. It's made me love in the way I never thought I would. You make me stop looking, stop wanting, and start celebrating.  Because every moment with you is a joy to me.  You take away my fear, Meg, you make me believe in love, and I never will let anyone, or anything take that away from either of us.
Meg: Those are the vows you said to me on our wedding day.
Ben: I know. And I meant every word I said to you that day. And I still do.

Maria: Sara, Meg is my friend. And the only thing I want is for her to be happy.
Sara: It's funny how your presence seems to have the exact opposite effect.

Tim walks in on Casey and Sara hugging:
Tim: Hey, hey, look at you, guys, just like regular soap opera out there, isn't it?

Casey:(to Tim) You know, it's amazing how much work it seems to be for you not to have a life.

Tim: You know, lying gets you nowhere. You can ask your sister that, I lied to her and I lost everything.
Casey: So you went on and you lied some more.

Tim: I'm just observing, Casey.
Casey: You're just pathetic.

Tim: You almost blew it with the lifeguard didn't you?
Sara: You are a little, little man.
Tim: Maybe so, but a little man can get some things right, you know.

Ben: I don't think I have seen you this happy for a while.
Meg: Well, Maria's flashback of memory last night has made me pretty hopeful. Who knows, maybe it'll all come sooner than we thought.
Ben: And here I was thinking that this gloat of yours was due to your memory of last night.
Meg: Oh, well, every moment is preserved perfectly in my mind, trust me. From the second you started reciting your wedding vows to the last kiss you gave me before I fell asleep in your arms.
Ben: There are no last kisses for us.

Meg:  You know, wouldn't it be wonderful if we woke up and Maria's memory was under the tree, wrapped up on Christmas morning?
Ben: Yes, it would.  Maybe you could sit on Santa's lap at the Deep and ask him.
Meg:  You would love that, wouldn't you?
Ben:  Well, I'd like to be Santa.

Sara: You are like a bad penny, Tim.
Tim: Wait, I'm doing some thinking, all right?
Sara: Yeah, that's a dangerous activity for you.

Tim: Work with me on this, okay?
Sara: Tim, are you on drugs?

Maria: Maybe some day you'll know what it feels like to have your back against the wall.
Meg: Oh, I think I know.

Meg: Hi, is everything okay?
Ben: It is now. (he gives her a long kiss)
Meg: Wow, what did I do to deserve that?
Ben: I just missed you, that's all.
Meg: How's Maria?
Ben: I don't want to talk about Maria. Let's focus on you for a change. On us.

Sara: Dad, Maria is not the angel everyone thinks she is.

Meg: So, Sara, what are you up to?
Sara: I am just taking these presents to Maria so her family doesn't think she's a Scrooge.

Ben: You're having a good Christmas?
Meg: This is the best Christmas I've had in a really long time.
Ben: Well, we might have to remedy there.
Meg: What do you mean?
Ben: I want it to be a perfect Christmas for you.
Meg: Oh, the day is not over yet.
Ben: I know. I love you.
Meg: I love you.
Ben: Well, don't ever forget it.

Ben: I wanted to surprise you on Christmas. Tell you we can get married.
Meg: Do you think that that's ever gonna happen?
Ben: I know it is. And soon.

Ben: Now, where were we? I don't get to spend that much time with you anymore. I don't wanna waste another second of it.
Meg: Neither do I.
Ben: I just wanna say you have been incredible through all this, Meg. And I can't tell you enough what it means to me and I love you for it.
Meg: You know you're always reassuring me. And I know the situation has been hard on both of us, probably even more on you. And I can't believe I haven't seen that until now.
Ben: Well, I'll put it this way: I understand.
Meg: Now it's my turn to be understanding. I love you so much and I'll do anything for you, no matter what.

Carmen: Stay away from Maria!
Sara: Well, then tell your daughter to stay away from my sister's husband!

Carmen: Why are you involving yourself in my daughter's life?
Sara: Because she is as transparent as plastic wrap on a bulk of day-old chilly.

Carmen: She is trying to get what's rightfully hers.
Sara: What? Meg's husband?

Joan:(to Meg)  Sweetie, trust me, when Maria came to that wedding, Ben made his choice immediately. He chose YOU.

Tim: Listen to me. Do this with me, it's gonna be perfect.
Sara: Because your plans are always so foolproof?

Tim: Hey, I had a feeling that your little chat with Meg wasn't gonna turn out too pretty. You need a shoulder to cry?
Sara: I would rather eat glass.
