Welcome to the capital of the Authentic Sinaloa, a handsome city that matches to a progresive beat.

Culiacan is a pleasant place with some unexpected treasures for the education and entretainment of visitors. With almost a million inhabitans, the Sinaloa capital has attractions for every taste.

To learn something of the history of this land, visit the Regional Museum of Sinaloa, with exhibits that travel back to prehispanic times.

If you are more interested in the future than the past, the Centro de Ciencias (Science Center) with its interactive exhibits is worth investigating. It has various exhibition rooms, a planetarium and a cafe. The meteorite that fell in Bacubirito, one of the world's greatest, stands on view in the lobby.

El Parque Culiacan 87 also merits a visit, whether to relax or to look for entretainment. You will find extensive green areas, an amuseument park and a good-sized artificial lake. Giving a new face to the city is Tres Rios, an urban megaproject which so far has reclaimed such appealing sites as the banks of the Humaya River and Oraba Island, and makes room for commecial centers amid stretches of greenery.

Among other sites which attest to a progressive city are the Parque Ecologico, the Casino de la Cultura and the Centro Cultural Genaro Estrada, a complex which includes a theater, a library, a movie house, various art exhibit halls, and a cafe that's a meeting place for the city cretive and artistic elements. Every week this center features artistic events of one sort or another.

Across the street, the Museo de Arte de Sinaloa, a building of noteworthy architecture, encloses a cross section of works by such oustanding Mexican artists as Riviera, Goitia and Cuevas. The Museum's central patio often serves as a site for concerts and other arts-oriented events.

Nearby, in the centuries-old historic center, the fully remodeled Garmendia Market is worth a second glance, or you can visit the Plazuela Rosales and soak up the atmosphere of yesteryear.

As for more of mundane pleasures, the gastronomic prospects in the Sinaloa capital have widened in recent years. Besides the famous regional dishes, one can find more sophisticated fare such as Italian, Japanese, Cantonese and International. Night life also presents a board range of options for a variety of tastes.

Come and see for yourself the metamorphosis that has changed Culiacan into one of the most appealing cities in Northern Mexico.
