| ROSTER |
| For a shortline railroad the WVRR has a rather large roster of locomotives. At this time we have 24 locomotives on the property and 1 leased from the Budd Company. There are locomotives from EMD, Alco, GE, Fairbanks-Morse, and a USRA steam engine. The following units are the regular road power units for freight and passenger/commuter service. SD45: 3613 & 3632 SD45-2: 3669 GP7: 1241 & 1246 GP7: 1405 & 1409 These 2 units are also equipped for passenger service SW9: 435 & 437 U25B: 2510 & 2512 C-424: 2404 & 2413 PA-1: 855 & 861 FA-1: 7341 The following units are in the excursion/charter fleet, though they can be used in revenue service when needed. Mikado 2-8-2: 3204 This is the queen of the railroad. 3204 is a USRA Heavy Mikado painted in Erie colors. She replaced the 0-6-0 that suffered boiler failure. E8: 817 This engine is painted in DL&W colors and is the other queen of the railroad. GP7: 1218 This engine is painted in Erie colors but is out of service at this time due to traction motor failure. F3A: 6351 & 6352 These 3 engines are painted in EL colors. F3B: 6322 H24-66: 1853 & 1857 The Trainmasters are normally used only for excursions and charters. Because they are steam-boiler equipped and are excellent pullers the Trainmasters can often be found in revenue freight and passenger service. The last unit on the roster is a leased RDC. Even though the concept of the RDC to reduce operating costs is not new, the WVRR wants to thoroughly test the concept to make sure that there will be no hidden surprises, financially, mechanically, or operationally. To date the RDC is showing a significant savings over a conventional commuter train. Negotiations are underway to purchase the demonstrator as well as several additional units. |
