| Welcome Liam Ewart Cipolla Moran! | |||||||||||||||||||
| Finally, after so many long weeks of waiting, Little Liam Moran made the no-turning-back-now decision to see the world! January 10, 2003 was the big day. 6:19 pm in Istanbul, Turkey. A Friday, in fact. His Grandma Cipollas birthday, too. He arrived weighing 7.92 lbs./3.6 kilos and measuring 19.9 inches/50.5 centimeters. After one month, hed grown to 10 lbs./4.5 kilos and 21.7 inches/55 cm. Ok, a lot of baby specs, I know, but isnt that what everybody always asks about? Its really just a way of saying: Hes healthy! Yippee! He and his mom stayed in the hospital just one night, along with Liams Aunt Erin, and in the morning his Uncle Bora brought his big sister Dante to see him. She was thrilled to be able to hold him in her lap. Because he was on a business trip, Liams daddy didnt get to meet him until Sunday. It was a happy homecoming and all the kids were glad to see Sean. And it was just 2 weeks later that Liam got to meet some of his grandparents. Grandma Lynn flew in on the 21st and Grandad & Granny Moran arrived on the 23rd with Aunt Sannah. His first big outing was his Aunt Erin and Uncle Boras wedding. For the occasion, Grandma Lynn brought him a handsome combination of white shirt, pinstripe pants, black vest and red power-tie. He wore it with confident aplomb and found it quite comfortable to sleep in, actually. Since then, Liams been hanging out at home with Mommy, Alex and the familys nanny, Husne (see story, next page). |

| Mommy's Story, In Her Own Words... | |||||||||||||||||||
| I was with my doctor at 2:00 pm on Friday for a regular check-up. We were both surprised when he discovered that I was in the early stages of labor (3 centimeters dilated--10 cm means the baby's here) and he was afraid to let me leave the hospital because I live so far away. He said that by the time I got home I could go into active labor 30 mins. later and, with Friday traffic, I'd never make it back on time! So, he decided to admit me and induce. I gave my sister-in-law Erin a quick call to let her know what was going on, then went to the admission desk. By 3:00 I was checked into my room and they'd started the hormone drip to induce. At 3:30 the anesthesiologist set up my epidural (pain killer) and Erin arrived to help out and offer moral support. At 4:30 I was 4 cm dilated. At 4:50 my contractions started hurting so I requested the epidural to be activated. By 5:30 the epidural was really kicking in and so were the contractions. At 5:45 I was 5-6 cm dilated and they prepped me for the labor room. At 6:05 I was 9 cm, in the labor room and had only about 5 more contractions before Liam arrived! Erin was with me in the labor room and so got to see the birth of her nephew! As most of you know, Sean was in Nairobi at an IB (International Baccalaureate) conference. Erin tried calling him from the hospital room, but the phone lines in Kenya are pretty bad. He didn't find out about it until Saturday morning. He arrived home Sunday, January 12th, very excited to see not only his two favorite girls but his new son as well. Liam's doing fine. We arrived home on Saturday at about 5:30 pm. He had a rough night but then Sunday night was MUCH better and he only woke up a couple times to nurse then went right back to sleep. Dante and Alex are VERY excited about their new baby brother. Alex insists that EVERYbody in the room be made aware that there's a baby there and Dante announced this morning that she wants me to have another baby and she wants it to be another boy. I broke the news to her that this is it. She can have ALL the babies she wants when she grows up but Mommy & Daddy are done. I think she's still planning on having 100 babies, but that may change in the future. Well, that's all for now. I must mention how wonderfully helpful our friends here on campus have been in being supportive this week. It's so touching to see how much everybody cares and to know what fantastic friends we have. Thanks to everybody who was so kind and helpful! |

| Without a doubt, the one person most consistently overjoyed to see Liam on a day-to-day basis is Alex, hands down. If given the opportunity, shed crawl inside his skin to be closer to him. He is kissed, petted, hugged and stared at by her daily. Besides the shameless adoration of his sister, Liam also spends his days being fussed over by Husne, Alexs nanny, and Ay?e, the familys housekeeper. Oh yes, and then theres his mom. They start their day together around the time Daddy and Dante are getting ready for school. First theres a quick pick-me-up breakfast in bed, followed by a diaper change, and then usually another visit to Dreamland, which gives Mommy the opportunity to make her life-renewing elixir (aka coffee) and some toast. Brunch hits at around 10ish and then theres lunch around 1. (Things pretty much progress along these lines for the rest of the day.) At night he sleeps between Mom, Dad and Tony (the cat) and sometimes Alex crawls into bed, too. So far no injuries have been sustained by either parent from falling off the edge of the bed, though some sore necks have been suffered. During the day he prefers his little bouncer seat with a soft blanket cause its snuggly. |
