| Welcome to Papua New Guinea Politics once again. Politics is one of the worst careers one individual can take up that could create lasting enemies, or a best and an easiest run to gain fame and accumulate on wealth. This is basically a true in PNG politics. PNG has a political history of only less than 3 decades since her Independence from Australia in 1975. The government is a democratic Westminster System similar to that of which most of the Commonwealth nataions are governed. Since Independence and within the last 27 years of nationhood, it has now so far six Prime Ministers of which three served twice or more. Interesting thing among the Prime Ministers are that they have their own "homegrown" name tags. Many Papua New Guineans know that Sir Michael Somare is the "Chief" and the Father of the Nation. Sir Julius Chan is known as the Father of the Kina (the PNG legal tender), Sir Rabbie Namaliu is an Analyist with visions for stability and good governance, and Paias Wingti is the "PNG Political Genius" and the most feared Strategist. Master William Bill Skate is the most vibrant and "colourful" PNG Politician whereas Sir Mekere Morauata is simply the new Refomist in the 21st Century.. |
