In March and early
April 2000, I traveled to Hong Kong and the Philippines. It was my first time in each place, and the first time I
had been in Asia since going to Taiwan in 1989.
I spent two weeks in Hong Kong, and a week in the Philippines.
Unfortunately, I ended up wishing the time I spent in each place had been reversed. Although Hong Kong is a great place to visit, it is a great place to visit for a few days, unless your primary pastime is shopping. And if you are like me (i.e., do not have a lot of money to spend), staying there too long can really drain one financially. The pollution doesn't exactly make things a picnic, either. Nevertheless, Hong Kong will always be a special place for me, because it is where I first met Lulu. And to kind of back off of what I just said above, it is not such a bad place once you get away from Kowloon and the Central District of Hong Kong Island. Though most people think of Hong Kong as only a city, actually the territory of Hong Kong (or now the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) consists of a peninsula and over 260 islands. The total area is over 1,000 square kilometers, which equal to over 400 square miles.Anyway, here are some pictures from my time there... |
