Rehabilitation Services

There is a National Directory of Rehabilitation Services, but I don't currently have access to that. When I find a link to an on line directory I will include it here. Be aware that Rehabilitation Services are often available locally, If you or someone you know is in need of these services, your best bet is to contact a local charitable organization that works for the blind or your states "Blind Services". Often times your Ophthalmologist can make the necessary referral. Counselors with these organizations are very knowledgeable about what services are available, and can be very helpful in getting you the services you need.

The VA has established 10 rehabilitation centers for blinded veterans. Their program runs approx. 6 weeks depending on individual needs, and addresses basic living skills. Including orientation & mobility. Sighted Veterans will work extensively with the Low Vision Clinic (2 hrs. daily) to address maximizing their useable sight. For veterans with complicating medical conditions there are Blind Rehab. Clinics which run a less strenuous program.
