CI Journey Journal --Pg. 4 (Kelcie's Surgery)
Kelcie's experience is much different than Cierra's.  Kelcie had much more functional hearing, until it dramatically dropped within 3 months after she turned 2.  So, in May, we decided we weren't going to let things get worse, and we decided to get her a cochlear implant!  Cierra's tremendous success was a contributing factor of us knowing this would be the right thing to do!

Ok!! We are home!!  I can't say enough how wonderful the surgery and post-op things went!!  She completely stunned me when she got up off my lap and started walking to the toy room 3 hours after surgery and 1 1/2 hours after recovery!!  SHE WANTED TO PLAY!!!  The only thing that bothered her was the darn IV in her hand and after many times trying to pull it out, she got it off at 1:15 in the morning as she did not need any pain meds.  She was up at 12:00 am (midnight) and wanted to play, so we went to the toy room!!
She was riding the cars around and just doing wonderful!  She so badly wanted to go home and wanted th get rid of anything that meant "hospital"(pajamas, id bracelet, IV)!!
Today, she is full of smiles and we got home just 24 hours after surgery.  She is freaking me out, because she doesn't even act as though she had surgery---so doing things that make me panic!  She says, "surgery, same as Cierra, yes"!  She is so proud!  She is just doing so much better than Cierra did, and I though Cierra did wonderful, but I think it is because of the age, and Kelcie has a VERY HIGH pain tolerance.  SO...we are very pleased and I am very excited and happy for Kelcie as she will be getting stimulated on July 19th--exactly 6 month's from Cierra's stimulation!!  Also, was very happy that her NRT(neural response telemetry) showed her brain is responding to the implant!!  We could not have asked for it to be better!!  Thank God for miracles!!  We have been doubly blessed!  I will let all of you know how her stimulation goes!  It will be a very crazy time, as we will be in New Orleans from July 14-17, then on the 18th turn around and head to Rochester for 4 days!  SO WORTH IT THOUGH!!  Anyhow, just wanted to update you and THANK SINCERELY the whole team at Mayo for their wonderful work!!  THANK YOU!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Sincerely, Misty Hauf
