February 8th, 2001 - Who Are You?

Who are you really? A hunk of flesh and a glob of brains? What makes up the sum totality of all that is you? Is there more to man than can be detected by the five physical senses? Scientists turn philosophers or guessers when attempting to answer this question.  But there is ever-present in man, throughout history, a restless search for the divine.  The proverbial quest for the holy grail is evident in literature throughout the ages.  Inwardly, we know, there is something more.

"But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding." (Job 32: 8)

"The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching (illuminating) all the inward parts of the belly (soul)." (Proverbs 20: 27)

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." (John 4: 24)

When I was a young man and became dissatisfied with the denominational church I attended, I began to seek after this God of miracles and power I had heard about. I did not see Him there in the church.  To me, it appeared to be a bunch of people playing games, spiritual patty cake, or at best a social club.  I sought for God on my own terms; looked to the east, studied psychic power and the occult (you could say I was "looking for God in all the wrong places..."). I found power but still something was missing deep within my soul.

What I didn't realize, but was fast finding out, was this: my spirit was cut off from God.  There was no way I could truly fellowship with Him as long as I was in my spiritually dead condition.  For this reason Jesus says, in John chapter 3, "you must be born again."

Man is more than flesh and brains.  He is created in God's image.  He is a spirit.  God desires to commune with you in the most intimate way possible.  His Spirit has designed a way for your spirit to become one with Him.  That way is Jesus.

Find out who you really are. Who you were meant to be.  Receive Christ as your Lord and Savior and let the real communication begin!
