| January 31st, 2001 - A RAP-Parable (Keepin' it Real!) Alright, here we go, it's a trip--PSYCH! Let me tell you what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. It's like a man with a plan to take a trip in his van To hit the road while he can to a far away land, So he called in the guys that were working for him And he opened up his safe and let the dealing begin. To one he gave a lot, about 260 grand, Because this guy knew how to work the land, To the next he gave half of what he gave to the first And to the last he gave a 10th because he was the worst. Yea he split up the booty by the skills that they had And then he told em "See ya later" and he packed his bag, Dad. Well the one with two hundred sixty K Invested in the market and doubled his pay; The guy with half of what the first one got Diversified his funds and he doubled his lot; But the last dude didn't even take the time He just buried what he had and didn't risk a dime. So many months passed and then the boss returned And he was quite surprised by what he learned! Because the first man came and he showed him the stats "See, I doubled the take! But You know... we 'bout dat?!" And the big man said, "Hey, you all right!" You've kept the faith and fought a good fight!" "You've been faithful with a little bling bling, So from this day forth you'll rule like a king." "So now enter into the joy of the Lord" He's already paid your room and your board" Now the second dude stepped right up and he said, "Yo boss, check it out, I got game, I'm ahead! You gave me good money, I got double instead." And the boss checked the books and then he nodded his head, He said, "Well done, good and faithful home boy The same goes for you, come and know the Lord's joy!" Now the third one came and he said with a grin, "Lord, I didn't do a thing, because of my sin, I know that you are sovereign and do what I can't, You're shrewd, and you reap where you didn't even plant. So in my fear I went and hid that which you gave in a field in the ground--it's a good way to save!" The Lord looked at him and he said without pause, "If you knew I was shrewd you'd obey my laws!" You are wicked and lazy and useless to me, How can I trust you? can't you see? You say that I reap where I haven't sown, So at least put the sum in the Building and Loan, I would then get some interest, though not a lot Now instead I will take what little you've got And give it to the one that has gotten me double, The one who invested my stash--no trouble. For to everyone who has shall be given again And he shall get more! cuz he's good with the yen. But he who has nothing to show will be sacked; He will lose even that which he had when he lacked. Yo! take him outside to the blackness of night Where there's weeping, and nashing of bi-cuspid bite." This Rap-parable is my modified version of Matthew 25: 14 thru 30. Even though I wrote it in a humorous vein I don't mean to treat the subject matter glibly. It is a very serious matter, actually... Jesus warns us in this parable how wrong it is to say that because God is God that nothing we do, or don't do, matters. Everything we do matters, and reverberates through time and space like ripples in a pond. Jesus gives us the ability to serve God from the heart and make every move count. God has given us all something to invest in this short life that we have here on earth. Make it count. Invest wisely. Serve God only. Keep it real! |
