"I greatly fear the world will call

                    you DreadNaughts."

                 ~Judith McNaught

Text Box: Hero claiming is a fun dimension that was added to our board by it's original members in an effort to add a little pizzazz to the BB. It is a game of sorts, and everyone that posts on the JMBB is invited to play! Anyone who would like to claim a JM character as their own is welcome to!

Now we know that you are probably wondering how to go about doing just that, so below are the answers to just about anything you could think of to ask...

How do I claim a JM hero?

Chances are, your first choice -- possibly even your second and third -- is going to be taken. Why? Because the most desirable men were the first to go, of course! So before you set your heart on one particular man, we  recommended that you visit both the list of claims and the men listed in the Available Hero Gallery. Once you check out which  men have been claimed, simply find one you want who is not already attached -- and claim him with all possible haste!

To make this claim official, simply notify the Marriage and Claims Council (MACC) and appropriate measures shall be taken to document your claim in the List of Claims.

Once my claim is recorded, it's permanent, right?

Not quite. Your claim is only as permanent as your stay at the bulletin board. Since there are far more Dreadnaughts than there are available Heroes, you must adhere to the Claiming Guidelines in order to keep your claim on a man.

What exactly are the Claiming Guidelines?

Those of you who are interested in claiming a man (as well as those of you who already have claimed a man) must do each of the following…
1.      You must have been a member of this BB for at least 30 days, and have posted a minimum of 5 DAYS within those 30 days.
2.      You must continue to post a minimum of 5 DAYS within a 30-day period. Since we can only check the number of posts made by any member of the BB within a period of 30 days (as opposed to a calendar month) that is what we shall use. Please note that the requirement is five DAYS and not 5 times. If you post 5 times in one day that only counts as 1 day.

**Please note that these guidelines were based on a poll taken by the ladies of the JMBB. They have been established in order to make sure that the game of claiming remains fun and fair for everyone involved. If you know that you cannot meet the required number of posts, perhaps this is just not a game that you are able to play at this time. Whenever you are able to visit our BB more often, which is what we would like all of you to do, please feel free to jump right in and claim a man.

What if the JM Character I want is already claimed?

So what to do if the man of your dreams is already shacked up with someone else....Well, there's a good chance that you're just going to have to grin and bear it. After all, most of the heroes are quite happily married. However, as mentioned above, some of these delightful men occasionally become free again due to the fact that the previous claimer no longer regularly posts at the board. In this instance, you might just want to throw your hat in the ring as a contender for his hand .

What happens when a JM hero is made available?

When the List of Claims has been updated, the MACC will make an announcement on the board regarding any newly available gentlemen. If a man you've had your eye on becomes eligible, you should naturally state your interest at once!

Unfortunately this does not mean the two of you are free to hightail it to Gretna Green or Las Vegas.

Sad to say, in the interest of fairness, an announcement is made on the JMBB stating the change in this man's marital status. All ladies that are interested in him should state their intentions on the BB as well as email MACC about them. In order to determine which lucky lady will get to be the lucky bride, a competition will be scheduled to determine just WHO knows the most about the man in question.  These competitions (much like tournaments in the days of old, except now it is the women proving themselves worthy of the man--lol) are trivia contests of sorts -- the trivia coming from the book that said man was in. If he is in more than one book, the Ladies of MACC will determine which book the trivia will be from. Obviously whoever wins the contest WINS THE MAN!!!

Now, if only one lady expresses an interest in a man (on the BB and in an email to MACC) and within a 72 hour period no one else throws their hat into the tournament ring then there will be no competition and he is hers, free and clear.

What if I have already claimed someone at the JMBB, but the man of my dreams suddenly becomes available?

Well since we don’t advocate continuously hopping from one “marriage” to another, we encourage you to follow your heart in the first place. However, we do understand that every once and awhile an old love may come up as available and you may be tempted to throw your hat in the ring for him. In such circumstances we say go for it…far be it for us to stand in the way of true love!

Do I have to give up my current husband before being able to compete?

While we understand that you may want to keep your current husband so that you have someone to fall back on, that really isn’t in the spirit of the game.  So yes, you would have to give up your husband if you choose to compete for another man. However, out of the goodness of our hearts, MACC will give you one opportunity a year to place your current marriage on hold while you see if this new man is the one for you. However, should he fail to become the man of your dreams it is up to you to beg your husband’s forgiveness…and boy your explanation had better be good! :)

What  if a lady is absent from the BB for an extended period of time?

Well, there are actually a myriad of things that could be going on in this instance, but more than likely it will be one of these two…

1.      If someone is taking time off from the BB in order to go on a month long safari or to deal with a personal tragedy (for example) we completely understand their not being able to meet our posting guidelines. Of course their man will be held in safekeeping for an approximate period of up to two months until their return. We respectfully ask any BB member wishing this kind of reprieve to simply notify us about it in advance so we won't fear they’ve left for good. :)
2.      If someone is simply absent from the BB (and not meeting posting guidelines) without notifying us about it in advance, we will do our best to contact them and respectfully ask for them to return to the BB or give us an approximate date that they be able to return. If we receive no response from said poster we will continue to give them strikes until they receive three. At that time, we will simply notify them that we’ll miss their presence at the BB and free up their man so that others will have a chance to play the game.

**Please note that MACC does have a three-strike rule. We will only send out two letters prompting any wife back to the bb…after that we’ll have no choice but to send a third letter freeing up your man. So if you don’t have the time to play this game we respectfully request that you free up your man for someone else who does. :)

Can I claim Kevin Costner or Harrison Ford since they are mentioned in Perfect, or King Henry from A Kingdom of Dreams?

Actually, no. LOL In all honesty, this game of ours was invented so that we could all have fun with Judith McNaught's fictional characters. Since there are plenty of those to go around, let's keep it to characters that were invented by Judith herself. Also, please note that characters can only be claimed in the state that they appear in their books. For example, the children of heroes & heroines are indeed that...children...and are therefore not eligible for marriage. So yes that means that there will be no claiming of the next Westmoreland heir. Sorry ;) Now, if Judith writes a novel for Noel and he is all grown up, then all's fair in love and war.

Is MACC in charge of games, chats or book discussions on the JMBB?

Actually, no. MACC is in charge of recording the marriages, presiding over the claiming guidelines and holding the marriage competitions. Anyone at any time can host a game,  or book discussion (although currently the Discussion Diva's are our official book discussion leaders)…and in fact we encourage everyone to do so! We love playing games!

My question wasn't addressed here. What do I do?

If you have any questions regarding the claiming of a JM hero that you
do not feel have been addressed, please do not hesitate to contact the
Marriage and Claims Council at JMBB_MACC@yahoo.com.
