Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow
It has been said:

"They take country musics long, rich heritage, dose it liberally with urban grit, and spit it back with a passion all their own".

Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow are seven members strong; Acoustic guitar/lead vocals, Accordion/vocals, Pedal Steel, Bass, Drums/vocals, Mandolin, Lead electric guitar. At the core of the band is Tom Phillips. With the skill of an artisan and the soul of a true street poet, he creates songs which range from hard core honky tonk to heart wrenching ballads.

Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow wowed an unsuspecting crowd of thousands during their concert at the 2001 Calgary Folk Festival. Tom and the boys were headliners at the 25th anniversary Frostbite Festival in Whitehorse, YK February 21-23/03 and were main stage performers at the 2003 Canmore Folk Music Festival Aug.2-4/03.

Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow were also the headliners at: the 1999 Calgary Women of Distinction Awards (Jack Singer Concert Hall), The legendary "Broken Spoke", July/00 (Continental Airlines event, Austin, TX), Songwriters circle Big Valley Jamboree, August/01 (Big Valley, AB), Canadian Country Music Week, Sept./01 (Calgary, AB), Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Aug./02 (Edmonton, AB), Juno fest/03 (Edmonton, AB), Dauphins Countryfest July 1-4/04 and were second billing with Stompin Tom at Cowboys 2006 Stampede tent, opened the 2006/7 Beneath The Arch Concert Series season in Turner Valley, AB and were headliners New Years Eve 2006 at Calgarys legendary honky tonk Ranchmans.

They also play regularly at Calgarys 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006 top live music venue for Country and Folk, The Ironwood Stage and Grill.

Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow have 3 CDs of original material released and one live recording released in November 2004. Watch for the 5th CD planned to be released December 2007.

The response to their first CD was very positive with both critics and the general public. The 2nd CD "The Essential", the 3rd "High Flyer" and the 4th "King of the Broken Heart" also received tremendous media attention.

One review on the first CD.....

"For all you snobby Americans who think hard-core country music can only come from within the borders of the US of A, Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow have a big surprise for you. Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, they play honest-to-god honky tonk music brimming with twangy lead and steel guitar (nice accordion too) behind Phillips' perceptive lyrics which probe timeless country music themes--love and loss, barroom bravado, the solace of the open road--with humor and pathos. Two thumbs up, way up North!!"

-David Goodman, author Modern Twang (1999 Dowling Press, Nashville, TN)

Tom Phillips and the Men of Constant Sorrow are so original and true, Continental Airlines, based in Houston, flew the boys down to Austin, TX to perform for their top corporate clients and then shot a video of the band performing at the legendary "Broken Spoke" in downtown Austin.

Live audiences are instantly drawn to their sound. These boys love to play and it shows. If you haven't heard them yet, keep your eyes and ears open, because you will soon.
