Botanical Name: Cassia angustifolia
Senna is an Arabic name, and the drug was first brought into use by the Arabian physicians Serapion and Mesue, and Achiarius was the first of the Greeks to notice it. He recomends not the leaves but the fruit, and Mesue also prefers the pods to the leaves, thinking them more powerful, though they are acutally less so, but they do not cause griping.
Senna is a Shrub that grows in India, Pakistan and China. The Leaves and Pods are used for Medicine purposes. People in Northern America used it for centuries to treat constipation. It has also been used topically to treat acne, ringworm and other skin diseases. Its more common use today is for Constipation.
