Documentation of the Development Process

This page is intended to serve as both as a menu, and a platform for customers to place online orders. As those were the main objectives of the website, I used several techniques to facilitate the execution of those goals. For instance, I utilized a table, to lay out a variety of the products that the website offers for sale. I also added extra rows to allow space to add descriptions of each product. Also, I added a page that held a form that allowed for the submission of orders. The purpose of the order page, at this time is to simply take an order and give a message of successful submission.

Defense of the Final Product

As stated in earlier milestones assignments, instead of using a fictional uncle's business, I chose to make a website based on my actual uncle's business that lacks a website. I chose my color scheme based on the red color of his business sign, and I chose to complement that color with beige and khaki colors. I also used the turquoise from his sign on my navigation bar. I figured if I were to create a real, functional, website for him, or a business similar to his, it would be wise to complement the colors of the actual brick and mortar establishment.

For typography, I chose to use the font "Arial", simply because I wanted the site to translate across many browsers.

I wanted the website to be functional and aesthetically pleasing, yet to be simple and straightforward. Simplicity translates to ease of use. Again, I chose to use a table to display the variety of products available in a simple, yet effective way. To enhance the table, I added coloring that matched the color scheme of the rest of the website.

Opportunities for Improvement and Growth

There are many opportunities for improvement and growth to make this website fully effective. For instance, if I had more knowledge of "php" and JavaScript, I may have been able to create a fully functioning order form. With more knowledge and resources, I would be able been able to then connect the order form to a database for more effective e-commerce.

Also, within the order form, there is the opportunity to add payment methods. This will make the website more efficient. As it stands, the customer is allowed to place an order and then a staff member would call the customer to confirm.

Also, with more practice and knowledge, I would create a more sophisticated design of the website. I think I did an adequate job for a beginner, but with more knowledge and resources I think I could create a website that I'd want to share outside of a school project.
