'68 Firebird Trunk
The Spacesaver spare, jack and all  hardware is factory original. The factory replacement inflator bottle is from 1973.

(There are reports of other '68s having black Spacesaver spare rims and black jacks.)

Only the outer side of the rim has been repainted. To best duplicate the paint color I mixed (via trial & error) enamel: 16 parts gloss white, 5 parts black, 3 parts yellow, 1 part brown.

Only the visible (bottom) of the jack base is repainted. To best duplicate the color, I mixed 10 parts Model Master Ford & GM engine blue, 4 parts Testors 1108 light blue, and 4 parts black.
P.O.N.T.I.A.C. Emblem: Five of the seven PONTIAC letters had some paint chipped off. Using white Testors model paint with a touch of yellow, I was able to duplicate the cream white look of the originals.  Can you tell which two were not painted?
Above: The  First Gen convertible vibration dampener. (Cocktail shakers)
Trunk Lid: A look at the factory paint and factory lifting proceedures sticker.  Only the edge (at the PONTIAC lettering nuts) has been touched up to clean up some bad spots.
I have removed the trunk mat that I had added. The rubber mat held moisture and promoted rust. (My car didn't have one from the factory anyway.)

A trunk restoration has been completed.
- POR15 paint and POR epoxy putty was used in the trunk well to fill pits and protect from rust.
- GM aqua/black trunk spatter paint was used.
- Very low gloss clearcoat sealed the spatter paint.
- Tail lights were cleaned and sprayed with Freshsteel.
Details: I recalled a small valve stem cap and core remover tool that was my car's SpaceSaver spare  when I got it. Through the years, I used the tool for bike tires, car tires and beach inner tubes and it eventually vanished. Except for one I saw on a nice '68 at a show, the only reference to the cap I have seen in documentation is on the spare's instructions.  I recently found a replacement on EBay.

400 Emblem: The "400s" have been repainted with Testors Boyd 52708 - Sunburst. Thanks to fellow enthusiast, Bjorn, for locating this correct color.
Shock Cover: A small black plastic cap covers the shock tops.
