Rakers' page 11

After short stops in Missouri, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle, we reached West Palm Beach Florida.

We camped at the Lion Country KOA camp grounds just a few hundred yards from where the lions roamed. We could hear them roar every morning and evening at feeding time.

While in Florida we also had the opportunity to visit Jim's cousin Peg and her husband Ed who live atop a Naples beach-front highrise.

The view of the Gulf from their place is breath taking.

While in Florida we also had the opportunity to visit with Jim's cousin Marylou's daughter Lorraine, and young Uncle Al.

Early on the morning of 9-11 we packed up, had the slide outs in and were ready to leave Florida when the news broke. We thought it might be wise to stay in Florida a few extra days, which we did.

We needed to return to Nebraska for awhile to attend a farewell Roast the Lions had planned for us and to attend the Elk's annual PER picnic.

When things calmed down around the country we left Florida and headed for Nebraska.

On the way back we stopped in Alabama to visit the Army Aviation Muesum at Fort Rucker. It was only a few days after 9-11 and the seccurity at the gate was very tight. They searched every inch of our truck before they would let us on to the Fort, but it was worth it. The muesum was wonderful. They had both the L19 and H-23 that Jim flew years ago in the Army National Guard.

As we passed through St Louis we stopped and celebrated an early Thanksgiving with our Cluney cousins and our old friends Randy and Ginny Steinmeyer.
