Jim and Lois' Daughter and Her Family

Lois Loraine (Gazzaway) Ray was born at 6:36 a. m. March 10, 1953 in the Teague, Texas City Hospital during a heavy thunderstorm. Jim was sitting in the hallway outside the delivery room talking to a gentleman whose mother was in intensive care next door to the delivery room when the nurse opened the door and said, �Mr. Gazzaway, you have a little girl.� Jim had already heard the birth cry. The gentleman, observing the heavy rain made the comment, �You should name her something with �rain� in it.� Jim�s reply was, �Her name is Lois Loraine.�

Loraine was the second grandchild on her mother�s side and the first to survive, while she was the first and only on her father�s side of the family. She weighed in at 4 pounds and 11 ounces and went home in 3 days. Although her parents were told by many, �She�s too small, you�ll never raise her.� She grew up normally.

Loraine married James Deane Ray on September 1, 1972 in Conroe, Texas. She bore a still born baby boy on August 19, 1978. She and J.D. adopted Stephen Mark at age 1 month in February of 1979 and Jonathan Kimbell was born on January 6, 1982 and passed away with Highland Membrane Disease on January 26, 1982, Robert Garrett was born on December 5, 1983.

Loraine is a Mary Kay Consultant in Garland, Texas and working toward that �Pink Cadillac.�

J. D. is a computer analyst with E Systems Division of Raytheon in Garland, Texas. He enjoys his boat which he keeps near Lake Lavon and frequents the lake for skiing, cruising and fishing. He also is quite active in the Austin Street Church of Christ in Garland. He at present is teaching a young people�s class in Bible school there.

Stephen has moved to Conroe and lives with his Granny Ray. He has been working as a carpenter's helper and other things. He has a girl friend and seems to be happy. Garrett is busy with school work, in High School in Garland is a trainer for the athletic activities. He enjoys Star Wars type movies and is quite �a computer whiz� when it comes to games and keeps himself entertained reading and visiting with friends.

The are surrounded by friends and there is never a dull moment in the Ray House.

Duke, a Collie hearing ear dog for Loraine, who is legally deaf, and Duchess a shy Sheltie share their home in Garland and are part of the family.
