Sister Dorothy, Lois, Her Mother, Brother Gene,
Her Father, Brother Newman and in Front Brother Scott

Pictured in this group is from left to right Dortha, Lois, Mrs. Cooper, Gene (behind them), Scott (in front), Mr. Cooper and Newman.

Dortha married Robert Cambron, Lois married Jim Gazzaway, Gene married Ruth Whitaker, Scott married Sue Mayhall and Newman married Viola Click. This picture was taken in the early 1950s

Newman served in World War II in North Africa, Sicily and Italy and after being honorably discharged went to work at Huntsville, Alabama Arsenal. He worked with Werner Von Braun as the Saturn Missile was being developed and remained there until he retired. He died suddenly while helping his crippled wife put her leg brace on.

Dortha died of a heart attack while in the hospital for a physical examination and Scott died of Lou Gehrigs Disease in 1995.

This photo was taken on one of the rare occasions when the whole family was able to be together. With Lois living in Texas and only getting home once or twice a year and everyone being busy such gatherings were rare.

Gene, Lois and Scott

This is the last picture we have of Scott. It was taken on a trip Lois made to Alabama in the early 1990s and shows Lois and her brothers, Gene and Scott, on either side of her. Shortly after this picture was taken, Scott fell while walking to his truck as he was leaving work for home. He said he didnt know what made him fall, he didnt trip but his legs just gave way. He hurt his back when he fell and was never able to return to work. His legs began to get weaker and weaker and although he tried to get Social Security Disability, he was unable to because of a lack of diagnosis.

Scott entered the hospital in Huntsville, Alabama for some tests and they discovered he was suffering from Lou Gehrigs Disease. At first he was optimistic about recovering but rapidly grew weaker and weaker until within 3 months he passed away. The cause of the disease is unknown and it is not contagious nor passed from generation to generation.

Eugene Davis Cooper died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 1997 of cancer. His son Ronnie finished giving him a shave and he went to sleep and pass away peacefully.

Lois will always treasure the time she spent with her brothers when this picture was taken.
