Paulino de la Garza was born in 1841, the son of Vicente de la Garza and Antonia Villarreal. Paulino married Rafaela Fáz, who was born in 1839, and the daughter of Luis Fáz and Guadalupe Pérez.

Their children included:
Melchora, born in 1869, Ma. Guadalupe, born in 1879, and Vicente Garza Fáz, born in 1882.
