Crescencio Montes

1801-1877

 

 

Crescencio Montes was born in 1801 in San Antonio de Béxar. He took part in the battle of Concepcion, and the seige and capture of San Antonio under the command of Juan N. Seguin's company of Tejanos in December of 1835.

In 1840 - 1841 he served as a scout along with Manuel Montalvo for Col. William G. Cooke.
( He recieved a payment of $230 for this service on April 17, 1850 )

In the 1850 Census of Bexar County, Crescencio appears listed as 50 years of age, married to Francisca Montes, age 37.
His children are listed as follows:
Benecia ( Benita?) 17 f, Romalda 16 f, Francisco 12 m, Severo 10 m, Jose 3 m, Alejandra 3 f, & Guadalupe 1 f.

Also living with them was his mother or mother -in -law, Josefa Hernandez 75 years of age.

Crescencio Montes applied for a pension on December 11, 1874 and listed his residence as Eagle Pass in Maverick County.
He was granted a pension of $250 dollars on January 28, 1875 for his services during the Independence of Texas.

On June 8, 1877 at 11 p.m., Crescencio Montes died of a fever. The records from Jiménez list his age at the time as 81 years of age, and his wife was listed as Ma. Ygnacia Martinez.
