An extract from "Chalk On My Fingers", the heart-warming account of a young teacher's first year at a secondary school in the sixties, is on our website.

In the story we meet a wealth of characters at a school in a tough Northern English industrial town. We see the beginnings of the "yob society" in England and the start of the present great crisis in English education, but we also meet some down-to-earth pupils and dedicated staff determined to do their best for the children in their care.

We also have an account of the Blaydon School Press, a little-known private press which flourished at a Tyneside school in the thirties.

The buttons for the Blaydon Press and the extract from "Chalk On My Fingers" are below.
