James I. McMillan for Superior Court Judge
Introduction As you may know, there is a statewide primary election in March 2004. Locally, there will be three County of San Diego, Superior Court Offices where you will be selecting among Judicial Candidates. Why should it be important for you to know Judicial Candidates? You read in the newspaper that Judges make difficult decisions daily that directly impact the lives of people in your community. If you will think about it a second, you will realize that Judges are the only elected officials who may have a direct, immediate impact on your family, on your business, on your life. The character and quality of a judge's decisions are molded by the intelligence, perceptions and life experiences of the judge making them. What kind of person do you want making those difficult decisions for you, family and friends?

My Background and Qualifications
I grew up near Redding, California, and graduated from the University of California in 1963. I began working as a physicist in a small geophysics group in the Los Angeles area doing studies under government contract on detection of clandestine nuclear explosions. While there I continued school at California State University at Los Angeles where I received a Masters degree in Physics in 1966.
I came to San Diego in 1966 on a two lane asphalt road (if you remember that road - 101) with a small son, my pregnant wife and $300 in my pocket and a job at General Atomics where I worked as a physicist on applications of computer simulation of nuclear explosions and later on assay of nuclear waste, among other things.
Later, I worked at Cubic Corporation on buried land mine detection for the US Army.
While working, I went to law school in the evening along with acquiring and managing several rental properties. I was busy.
In 1976, I began practicing law and I have been an active member of the bar ever since. Also along the way, I held a California real estate broker's license for about 8 years.
For about 15 years I worked with my two sons in our computer business. We had offices in Guadalajara, Mexico and in Hong Kong along with three retail stores in San Diego. I supervised approximately 25 employees, did the accounting, provided technical support on a face-to-face basis for thousands of our customers and took care of the company legal issues during that time.
In the last few years I have been practicing law with my younger son, Shawn, out of the Kearny Mesa area.
I feel I am a part of the community, and I am offering my experience and my time as a contribution to the people of San Diego as a Superior Court Judge. A judge must follow the law, but I can bring fresh energy, insight and creativity to the office.
I believe I would be a good judge because of my diverse background and experience in dealing with all types of people under normal, ordinary conditions.
I need your help to be elected. If you would be willing to help in my campaign, send me email or phone me. 858-560-8730 If you would like me to give a short presentation to a group, just let me know.

I am admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, the United States District Court, Southern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
